Concept art for the Emperor and the Nightingale sequence from the cancelled animated feature film Musicana (by John Lasseter)
Based on the story The Nightingale by Hans Christian Andersen, this sequence was to feature Mickey Mouse as a servant of the Emperor of China. As in the source story, the Emperor hears of a Nightingale with a beautiful voice and asks to hear its song. Mickey would then befriend the Nightingale and convince him to sing for the Emperor. The Emperor would then keep the Nightingale in his palace and make him sing upon request, only for him to be forgotten when the Emperor is presented with a bejewelled, mechanical Nightingale which also sings. The Nightingale goes into self-imposed exile after this, and Mickey continues to befriend him.
Despite enthusiasm from fellow animators and directors, the executives were very apprehensive about Musicana, concerned with commercial viability of the film (Its predecessor, Fantasia, had been a box-office flop). They eventually passed on the project. All of the artwork for Musicana was archived. (x)

Always secondary, never the lead. So is the tragedy of Horace Horsecollar.

Who is the artist of the snowman? Just curious 😁🥰
From TMBW.net:
Mark Mazut created the iconic snowman artwork for the Don't Let's Start EP, released in 1987.
The snowman burning money was an original idea conceptualized and illustrated by Mazut. John Flansburghin 2012 said on Tumblr, "It was a very smart illustration created by Mark Mazut and he deserves all the credit. He presented [it] to us unsolicited. It was his original idea, and it still makes me think!"
Flansburgh stated Mazut was inspired by the running snowman clip art from the 1986 self-titled album's lyric sheet, which he recalls, "was taken (I believe out of a trash can) at my job doing kids workbooks at Macmillan Publishing," and had its smile "altered to a more ambivalent expression."[1] The Macmillan clip art and Mazut's drawing share similar features, including the snowman's boots and top hat.
