A wonderful article by the nonprofit Beauty After Bruises, run by volunteers with complex trauma & dissociative disorders and their loved ones + supporters. This article dispels several myths and misconceptions about dissociative identity disorder and the lives of those who have it. Please give this a read! 💙
Since endos love throwing their carrd around...
Information and academic sources on DID as a real, trauma-based disorder.
(not my carrd. i just found it somewhere. if you are the maker and would like credit, either dm me, send an ask, or just respond to this post!)
Hi, we are the creator of this carrd. We are pro-endo so we are fine with endogenic plurals respectfully sharing our carrd in support of DID as a real and trauma-based disorder.
What "DID is trauma-based" means:
DID is linked to overwhelming or stressful experiences, most likely starting at an early age.
What "DID is trauma-based" does NOT mean:
You have to be diagnosed with PTSD in order to have DID.
DID must fully manifest immediately after the trauma.
DID must fully manifest in childhood.
People with DID have to identify as a traumagenic system.
People with DID can easily remember or identify what caused their DID.
You must dig up memories in order to say you have DID.
You have to call what you went through "trauma."
All alters/headmates/parts experience PTSD symptoms.
Only abuse counts.
[Insert anything about plurality here].
[Insert anything about disorders that are not DID here].
do you think endogenic systems shouldn't call themselves systems
Please don't assume that we have any say in that. We don't give a shit who calls themselves a system. 😑

Information and academic sources on DID as a real, trauma-based disorder.
Friendly reminder that DID/OSDD does not equal sysmed. There are so many amazing DID and OSDD systems out there that are wonderful and supportive of all origins and they deserve more credit!!!
I wish all people trying to demedicalize DID/OSDD, say they aren't disorders or inherently disordered, spread misinformation on how they form, etc. A very shut the fuck up
[ This post is not about endogenic systems. If you are here to argue about the validity of endos you have the wrong post. ]
THIS!
Hey, those are a lot of really cool resources you put together, and looks like it took a ton of work--thank you! We also agree that sharing research on how DID is measurably different from actors pretending to have alters in an experimental control group, or other things that the iatrogenic hypothesis would suggest, aren't the same as medicalizing systemhood? Sorry you're getting some backlash about it. (Sincerely, from an endogenic-but-It's-A-Bit-Complicated system)
Thank you lovely anon! We honestly expected to get a little backlash (although we thought it would be more from fake disorder cringe-types). I think talking about DID and plurality will always make some people mad, no matter how they’re talked about it.
We’re thankful for your ask! 🙂
oh what the fuck happened here
...i'll fix this in like. a few hours i'm about to clock into work. will explain what happened on this end Eventually. apologies to @didisreal, we never should have put you on the blocklist
Thank you 😭

We created this carrd to provide sources and information on why DID is believed to be a real, trauma-based disorder. We put a lot of time and effort into digesting and summarizing 60+ sources.
If you aren't open to the idea that DID is real or trauma-based, then you're only going to get mad at the carrd. Just ignore it and move along.
I accidentally deleted your ask anon but I don't see how using plurality/plural as an umbrella term is a sysmed thing 😶
@sysmedical-blocklist has decided we are apparently a sysmed for being a pro-endo and tagging our posts as pro-endo. 😕 We’re not sure how exactly that makes us a sysmed. We just wanted to share info on why DID is a real disorder, and part of that includes distinguishing it from the umbrella of plurality. If you read our carrd, we talk about why people shouldn’t be medicalized just for being plural! And almost everything we wrote about endogenic plurality is paraphrased from one of the most well-researched endogenic-run websites!
How did we get put on a sysmed blocklist for…not medicalizing plurals? This is so backwards!
Does this happen to other pro-endos or maybe syscourse unaligned/neutrals? It sometimes feels like we can’t share information or even talk about mental disorders, separately from plurality, in this community. Both pro and anti-endos end up flipping out and hurling insults.

May I ask - how was their blog anti-endo? AFAIK, they just posted a caard that explains how DID is a trauma based disorder. I think it even acknowledges that endogenic plurality is a thing? /genq
Edit: here’s the screenshots of them agreeing that endogenic plurality exists, and that people should stop assuming that plural = DID
DID does not have to be traumagenic- there are plenty of endogenic systems that *later* become DID or OSDD systems. Asserting that *only* traumagenic systems- aka systems that developed from trauma originally- can become more dissociative or otherwise disordered- is not particularly healthy for any system, traumagenic or not.
Many traumagenic systems believe they are endogenic (not in a 'they can't be endo' way, but in the way that i've seen many systems discover trauma years later)- saying that only traumagenic systems can have DID would make them believe they cannot possibly be disordered, or try to dig up trauma "just in case" while they are not ready to unpack it yet.
Alongside this, see "the vast majority" in that second screenshot- disordered endogenic systems do exist. Pretending they do not only hurts people.
tl;dr disordered endos exist, and if only traumagenic systems can be disordered, systems will try to dig up trauma or be unaware of their disorderedness
😔✌️
Anyways, our system is pro-endo. We're not a sysmed for spreading research/resources on how both DID and endogenic plurality are real.
Plurality is real, not a disorder, and it doesn't have any single cause. DID is real, a disorder, and connected to trauma. These are both widely accepted statements and just because you can't accept that doesn't make us a sysmed. Who the hell are we medicalizing here? If you read the carrd, you'd see that we agree with multiple things you're saying.
If us advocating that plurality is not a disorder somehow makes us a plural medicalizer, well fuck! 😕
