To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand DickRoy. Their dynamic is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of neuropsychology most of their conversations will go over a typical reader’s head. There's also Dick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Thomas Wolfe literature, for instance. The DickRoy girlies understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of this ship, to realize that it’s not just erotic- it says something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike DickRoy truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Dick's existencial catchphrase "at least [Ollie] wasn’t a fucking junkie," which itself is a cryptic reference to O’Neil and Adams' 1971 epic Snowbirds Don’t Fly.
