you know what i do actually like the buckley parents resolution. because yes buck was bothered by it but only in the general way buck is always bothered by change. maddie's the one much more emotionally affected by it and buck is the one who reminds her they do have a family they can count on. because buck is in a place where he knows he has a family, and trusts that family to come back for him. he realized that bobby always believed eddie would come back to LA, and that he feels the same way. his parents didn't come for bobby's funeral but eddie flew in. eddie was there. buck doesn't feel like he has a say in his parents' lives but he can fight with eddie in the kitchen and eddie will bring christopher home. buck can love his parents but he acknowledges that he doesn't need to. he had bobby's love. bobby raised him. he can forgive his parents because they don't need to be stable and give him unconditional love. because he can get that at the diaz house.

Eddie really said: "I love you deliberately, even when you're annoying me, when you get us lost, when you act weirdly unhinged and yell at me. I love you on purpose, even behind your back, when you're not there to see it, when I think you're dead and might never get a chance to."

i take issue with any implication that eddie hasnt already worked extensively on being soft and vulnerable and gentle and kind. like he is already those things. at times he struggles with the piece thats about letting himself feel and express pain or discomfort or hurt … but he is literally. an incredibly mushy silly goofy tender guy who loves very openly and encourages the people he loves to be open as well. Just bc he isn’t doing the things u think he should be doing. well that does not mean he isn’t already that guy.

the buzziest thing about buddie is how devoted they are to each other. buck wanted to live, but he wanted eddie to live more. eddie has shown repeatedly that he is kind to the people who hurt him, but he was ready to kill someone for buck. they were both ready to give up these big pieces of themselves just to make sure the other made it home.

eddie Cannot go to sleep without buck once they start dating. like when eddie’s tired and ready to go to bed he says so and buck’s like okay night honey i’ll be there in a bit and eddie’s like 🙁. and then buck goes to bed with him

the thing about Buck and Eddie that makes them soooooo compelling is that if one of them were to die, the other would only be able to achieve the smallest crumb of peace in all the rest of their lifetime, by lying down at the foot of the grave of the other like those AI videos of dogs that lie down on their owner's graves for years and years and years that your grandmother sends you. but the thing is...they couldn't even get that “wet dog in the rain” satisfaction because they both love Chris too much. And they both love each other too much to let the thing they both loved the most (Chris) lose both of them. So they’d eventually wag their tails again and ignore the siren song of devoted vigilance at the other’s resting place. Like they “alive-trapped” each other by accidentally and quietly and purposefully and loudly becoming a family unit. And they don’t even kiss about it yet.

the way this is actually the second time recently we’ve encountered eddie and extra protein (buck’s protein cookies in 8x10 and now the cursed protein float) and it makes so much sense for eddie to care about his macros and I’m not sure I have complete thoughts on this but I love how this combines with eddie very happily eating all of buck’s (bad) baking whenever it’s offered to him and also the way (imo) the juice wasn’t about sugar/calories but about sweetness and enjoyment and idk but I think it’s a great part of his character that eddie is a gym guy in this way and seems to have a healthy relationship with food and also that his attention clear to his diet makes his thing about buck’s baking extra special

Thinking about Eddie who said, “You got the family you’re born into and the one you choose. Well, that’s what the 118 is, the family we chose.” And who said, “It’s the thing that ties us all together, so that no one person has to carry the weight alone.” And how he’s so aware of what this community means to him and he never forgets it. Because he left El Paso looking for his people and he found them and will never not appreciate them for giving him what he was missing. He remembers every birthday. He shows up to every dinner, every outing, every crisis. He keeps in touch even when he’s miles and miles away. Sometimes he can be mean and fight and lash out, but when he apologizes (and he always does, in his own way) it’s not just an “I’m sorry,” it’s something that comes from a true love and care for his people. It’s checking in on Bobby and helping him through his guilt about Jonah. It’s bringing over Christopher and Pepa to be with Buck when they’re grieving. He’s very thoughtful when it comes to that family dynamic, and so secure in his place within it, and for someone who spent so long not being a good enough son, not being a good enough husband, it’s so special that he has his family where he belongs as himself and knows it. And is confident enough in it to remind everyone else when they need it and to consistently put it into words the way he does.

fun fact: Theo is in fact not simply a clone of Buck! and you can in fact acknowledge him as his own person and not an offshoot of Buck! in the same way that Christopher is not a little clone of Eddie, and May is not a little clone of Athena, and Jee Yun is not a little clone of Maddie!
