part of what makes tsv so well written is in fact how stupid it is. The characters are always so hilarious, the circumstances so obviously ridiculous, the irony too much to bear at times.
Paige saying ‘good morning’ to the corpses strapped and flayed onto the fronts of passenger trains. The mere concept of the sacrificial drafts, and the fact that every citizen has to be contracted to a faith. Shrue using a fucking step scooter to get to the anti-sacrifice summit (where all four experts refuse to acknowledge the person strapped down and tortured in the centre of the room, btw). Adjudicator Cross openly talking about having Shrue killed to their face, just so that those in power can keep feeding, mere moments before being fed to something. The petulant God-Toddler they released into a foreign country with no regard for literally anything at all. The cruelty! The shame! All these people just absolutely falling over themselves to be the first to be taken by the open lie…
It’s all just so painfully obvious; certainly they have to see it? Certainly they have to see the contradictions, right? But they keep going. They push through how ridiculous their actions are because stopping—at this point—would be even worse. The machine is so bloated that it can no longer change its own momentum, and the bald-faced and utter _stupidity_ of this story makes that all the more painful—and all the more real.
It’s effective, is what I’m saying.
