A lot of the people doom-posting about Supergirl, acting like its the worst movie ever made (its not it was just a bit underwhelming) and saying its the death of the DCU are forgetting that half of the movies in the first phase of the MCU are of the same level or worse than Supergirl and it didnt kill the franchise. Thor 1 and Iron Man 2 are both mid movies with script issues and a great cast (just like Supergirl) and The Incredible Hulk is arguably one of the worst MCU movies and it was their second release (also, just like Supergirl). And all three of those came one after another. If the MCU stopped everything when their second movie was bad or when they stumbled a little after, we never would have gotten any of the great movies we got down the line. People need to calm the fuck down and understand that one underwhelming movie doesnt spell the death of the whole universe. The DCU has only existed for a year, give it a minute to settle

I'm gonna be thinking abt supergirl forever I think. like, the movie is so flawed. the palette of most of the planets is drab and boring, the villain and jason momoa are. uhm. they need to go, as does the child sex trafficking sub plot. it's rushed and doesn't let its impactful moments hang for as long as it needs to. but like despite all of this it's most importantly an enjoyable superhero movie, truly a unicorn in these barren lands, and second of all its about kara and ruthye and that makes it matter to me soo much more. its Their movie, their story and everything is about them. like I can't express how excited it makes me to watch a movie where the emotional weight, the stakes and the reason for the plot are the feelings of two girls trying to do the right thing for themselves and others. it makes me so happy!!! the stakes are that these girls will live their lives miserable without helping each other grow and that's enough to make a compelling movie!!!! im so happy!!!!!!!!

honourable mention to the soundtrack. I got so excited when I heard songs I knew in there like ok. this soundtrack is reminiscent of the superman soundtrack in that it's music that the character would pick out aa a soundtrack for their movie but they get kara down so well all the song choices are perfect for a movie that's about kara!!! she's banging out her tunes non diagetically!!!!!!!!!!

I just love how Supergirl isn't really about the revenge or the dog or anything that goes on at all. Its about two grieving girls trying to keep going in diffrent ways and teaching each other how to survive with the weight of it all while also inspiring each other to be better people. Its about not letting your past overtake your future. Its about prioritizing yourself instead of being fuled by your trauma. Its about being good no matter what.
