Finding out about the Mad King play spoilers only confirmed my prediction: That the essence of the saga was going to be betrayed. Where I start?
-Rhaella being abusive to Viserys and racist to Elia: First, Rhaella was one of the kindest women of Westeros; that woman gave her all to protect her children, to the point Viserys sold everything, including her crown, just to get Daenerys and himself something to eat and she embraced her granddaughter Rhaenys, even with Aerys saying "she smells Dornish."
-Lyanna being a greenseer and being happily at the Tower of Joy: Lyanna never gave any implications of being a Greenseer at all. They just took Show!Lyanna, the one who doesn't care about her family and thousands of people, amongst them northerners, dead, as long as she gets to dance to Rhaegar's songs, and gave her an extra gift.
-Elia being ok with the possibility of Rhaegar taking multiple wives, amongst them Lyanna, while saying that she is politically astute: Why would Elia be fine with Rhaegar recreating Daemon Blackfyre? The guy whose main cause of rebellion was the anti dornish sentiment against the queen and her son, an act that sparked five civil wars, with the last one ending on Elia's lifetime. Elia agreeing to Rhaegar going with Lyanna is diplomatic suicide, because it endangers her and their children. Besides, Maegor had a dragon and even he couldn't impose polygamy by force. What made them think, aside of idiocy, that Rhaegar could get away with taking multiple wives without having dragons, even when Maegor with a dragon failed? It's ridiculous.
-Elia and Lyanna being pen pals, writing to each other: This has so many holes that I can't fathom where to start: Elia literally didn't know about the Tower of Joy at all and Lyanna was extremely isolated by the Kingsguard precisely because they didn't want anyone finding out about Rhaegar's plans: They weren't protecting a person, they were protecting an asset.
-Rhaegar and Lyanna being madly in love: That was what Barristan Selmy mentioned, which can be discarded easily because first, he was never at the Tower of Joy and second, he never belonged to Rhaegar's inner circle. He is just trying to justify himself to Daenerys because Joffrey unceremoniously kicked him out from the Kingsguard. Rhaegar wasn't seeking a lover, he was seeking an ingredient for his prophecy:
Rhaegar: "Aegon, what a better name for a king?"
Elia: "Will you make him a song?"
Rhaegar: "He already has a song. He is the Prince that was Promised and his is the Song of Ice and Fire. There must be one more. The dragon has three heads."
-Elia not being in love with her husband, but with Ashara: First, Ashara was in love with Brandon Stark and gave birth to a stillborn child. And she was loyal to Elia. And Elia would have never been unfaithful to Rhaegar, mainly because of the scandal that would bring. They just put Elia/Ashara just to make Rhaelya more palatable to the audience.
So turns out that previous characterization of Elia in the play, (or Atleast the one that I was aware of) was actually wrong and the one above is closer to how she actually is.
I like this interpretation better imo, but I’m still not a fan of the orientalisim in the way that the play have written the Dornish characters. Nor how they have practically minimized the male characters’ actions while almost entirely shifting the blame onto the female characters.
Thank you ‘Melrosing’ for this info!!
Yeah, I'm just 100% done with ASOIAF at this point.
That Mad King play was the most misogynistic shit ever.
Rhaella, the same woman who hugged her half-Dornish granddaughter while her horrible rapist husband was openly racist, is now racist to her daughter in law & also she's abusive to son who she was canonically stated to have protected & who loved her so dearly he lost his humanity selling away the last thing he had of hers to survive.
Elia, the woman who was raped & murdered because her husband publicly humiliated & abandoned her her for a teenager was in on it & actually contributed to her own downfall, which resulted in the brutal death & the murders of her children.
But Rhaegar is flawless & absolved of all fault.
Rhaella abusing Viserys, Elia being a-okay with her humiliation and teaming up with Rhaegar to groom a teenager, Lyanna somehow being more prophecy obsessed than Rhaegar, elishara only being confirmed to whitewash Rhaegar’s actions, the Dornish being an orientalist mess, every single woman in this play being turned into a hysterical loco or being villainized in in order to uplift the men specifically absolving Rhaegar of any blame and sanitizing Aerys………turn this shit the fuck off

Rhaegar getting a dragon vision in the middle of the Trident and Robert killing him when he’s distracted… oh Bloodraven slimed his ass

Elia Week 2026 Day 4: “What Could Have Been” - No War AU ❦
˚˖𓍢ִ໋❀ Queen Elia helping her beloved daughter Princess Rhaenys get ready on her wedding day, putting on her maiden’s cloak - the same one she once wore for her own wedding. I like to imagine that in this AU, Rhaenys would be marrying someone kind, someone who she truly loves, and who would treat her with the love and respect she deserves 🧡

so someone pointed out that there was a book of poetry from Rumi on Yusuf Khan's desk in ddba ep 5. and this means nothing bc tbh rumi is v popular. but their theory for it was that it was specifically bc Yusuf is researching the quote on Kamala's bangle, which is also by Rumi.
and that got me thinking. As of The Marvels, Kamala still doesn't know that the quote was put on the bangle by her great grandmother. She hadn't even figured out it was poetry.
between sharing accounts of Partition, explaining djinn to Bruno, and the Hulk Shalwar, Yusuf is very distinctly the Cultural Heritage person in the family. So ofc the burden of investigating the farsi poetry falls to him.
Seeing as they know nothing about the bangles except 1) strong, 2) unfathomably old and 3) has been to a lot of places; I like to think after reading biographies, historical records, poetry analyses across eras, Yusuf has to confront a terrifying idea:
Did Rumi plagiarize from the Quantum Bands?

An Inspiring Marvel By Jo Cheol-Hong (Mi-Gyeung)
All the articles talking about how the marvels had the lowest box office opening of any marvel movie conveniently forget to mention that it’s the ONLY marvel movie to come out in the midst of an actors strike and didn’t get any of the press that all the other movies would have gotten 🙃
The Marvels trio consists of an amnesiac woman with PTSD, an overworked astronaut with major emotional trauma and a sixteen-year-old forced to confront the horrors of war when she should be fighting low-level crime at most. How the FUCK are they the most emotionally healthy and responsible team in the MCU.
