No hate because I love The Bear but in real life if my favorite local sub shop turned into a place where you pay $56 for three tortellini and a sea scallop I would be inconsolable.
there’s nothing profound about writing a character who’s near-suicidally devoted to taking down her enemies because she’s lost everything and then taking the last person she loves away from her and ending the show with her in anguish. there’s nothing groundbreaking about writing a character desperately struggling for agency & identity & to break away from the organization that abused her only to have her killed off in the process of destroying them, for shock value. and there’s certainly nothing new or fresh or clever about giving queer characters the tragic ending they were always “destined” to have, yet again. but whatever.
gazafunds seeks to uplift stagnant or otherwise struggling fundraisers for gazans seeking evacuation or simple necessities. i know many of the images crossing your feeds today are harrowing and impossible to fathom, but those in the line of fire need your help, not your complacency. gazafunds also urges those who are able to adopt a fundraiser to amplify to do so (you can contact them via their twitter.)

This is the same thing over and over again. Palestinians die every day, but it gets a lukewarm headline from mainstream media because death and destruction is inherent to Arabness. Then an aid convoy with white workers is obliterated, and now both the president of the United States and the president of Israel are making statements apologizing for “the poor protection of aid workers.” At one point we were seeing multiple reports a day of paramedics from the Palestine Red Crescent Society dying, but nothing. Crickets. Because they don’t care. And even in these “remorseful statements” there is a strategic reminder that white lives hold more weight than brown lives.
Ukraine/Russia happened and the first thing European leaders said was, "Well, this isn't the Middle East. Things like this doesn't happen here."
I've been told by many people that they never realized how deep anti-Arab sentiment ran until now and like. Guys. I understand, I get it, but we said it. We told y'all. Again and again and again. 1 million Iraqis killed in the war, and people didn't care. Syria, and people didn't care. Yemen, and people didn't care.
Guys. I cannot stress this enough. America benefits SO MUCH from Arabs being violently killed. Killing us gets them oil, gets them land, gets them allies, gets them presence, gets them power. And America purposefully silences/suppresses us to keep you from noticing. Notice.
bisan's live video on her 2nd acc is piercing my heart
she started off expressing (in arabic) how sick she is of the constant sharing, photographing, capturing, having to speak english and how she wants to speak in her native tongue instead.
she explained that the leaflets that were dropped again are ordering evacuation to rafah so they are forced into the sinai, and how impossible it is for over 2 million people to go to an area that's only 151 square km, so many have no choice but to stay in khan younis. they are trapped and have no international passports. rafah is the southernmost point of palestine after khan younis and she said - this part in english - "after rafah there is no more palestine. if we are forced into rafah there is no more palestine."
someone asked her if she has eaten and whether they have any food, her response was no, not at all; one loaf of bread has to be divided between everyone in her camp.
the video kept freezing because of how bad the internet service is in gaza right now so i lost bits and pieces, but at some point an older woman joined the live, a journalist outside of the country. it's unclear whether they knew each other previously, but a lot of warmth was exchanged. the woman got tears out of bisan when she told her "dont listen to people who tell you to be strong, i don't want you to be strong, i want you to be you. if you are sad i want to know, if you are happy i want to know." she explained that she tried entering rafah but the occupation refuses to let any foreign journalists in anymore.
after the woman left, bisan talked about her life before october. she said her life was beautiful and fruitful and any source of strife was solely on israeli hands; namely her inability to travel or pursue placements for her education outside of palestine. other than that she had nothing to complain about. if im able to watch the video after it ends, i will add any pieces i missed
"I would never-"
You would if you were tired enough. You would if you were hungry enough. You would if your mind and body had been worn down enough, through pain or disease or toil or violent struggle. You might if you were put on the wrong medicine, or you got the wrong kind of head injury, or you were forced to choose between someone else and yourself. You might if your livelihood was staked on it, or all your hopes and dreams. You might if you didn't know what else to do, if it's what you were taught or if nobody taught you anything else.
I have not been worn down in most of these ways. I have lived a remarkably privileged life. But I have been worn down in some ways. And they were enough to teach me that in the wrong circumstances, any of us can become someone we don't want to be. It's worth keeping that in mind.

Heba Zagout (Palestinian), 1984–2023
killed in an Israeli air strike in Gaza.
God they cut off all the internet and cellular networks in Gaza
We are isolated now’: Communications lost with many parts of Gaza (from Al Jazeera's live update, by reporter Tareq Abu Azzoum, 16:25 GMT)
We don’t know about anything that is happening in other districts in the territory. Maybe there are new bombardments taking place in these areas. We don’t know how many victims. We can only hear bombardments everywhere, but we don’t know any anything about the casualties, about the situation on the ground. We don’t know anything also about the medical conditions of doctors, medical workers, even at the Al-Shifa Hospital [the largest in Gaza]. The situation is catastrophic right now. We can no longer communicate with the international community to send our voice to the world to know what is happening on the ground. I hope that this message might reach and have an access to the world despite what we have experienced throughout the last hour. We are now in a hospital and we are going to be live by satellite as much as we can and every single hour. So please, if you can hear us, send that message to the world that we are isolated now in Gaza. We don’t have any phone signals. We don’t have any internet connections. We found great difficulty even to communicate and contact with our relatives in different parts of the territory. Journalists here, even the citizens inside the hospital, they don’t have any access to the networks. They don’t have any kind of communication even with their neighbors. There is a great problem in the network connections. We don’t know how it’s dropped. We don’t know if it was targeted. The situation on the ground is really terrible. Everyone is afraid, everyone is terrified. Please ,guys, if you can hear us send this message to the world that we are becoming isolated. Al Jazeera currently only has sporadic communication with correspondents in Gaza following the latest strikes on the besieged enclave.
This child in gaza is screaming:
"I wish it was a dream. Oh, mom and dad. I wish it was a dream and my mom and dad are still alive" after being rescued from underneath the rubble to find his parents killed by Israel.
Share this, we are not numbers. Let our voices be heard in hopes that this stops.
israel is planning to evacuate all the areas around the gaza strip, getting civilians to safer places. meanwhile, the palestinian civilians in gaza will be going... nowhere, because there's nowhere else to go to. they'll be staying back in the 2nd most densely populated area/ largest open-air prison in the world. if that isn't telling enough of the vastly unequal power dynamics of the situation. and we didn't even get to the part where palestine already had a health infrastructure on the verge of breaking. or just water and electricity....

Also any mention of Hamas/militants capturing Israelis that doesn't mention the purpose behind taking hostages - to secure the release of the 5,000+ Palestinians detained by Israel, including over 100 *children* - and portrays it as merely aimless violence carried out by Palestinians who can't suppress their orcish tendency to r*pe and pillage, is deliberately misleading bullshit. Violent resistance by Palestinians will always be decontextualized in order to acquit Israeli violence.
And guess what: it works. Last time they had just one Israeli soldier captive (Gilad Shalit in 2011) they got more than 1000 Palestinians freed from that mf. Israel's set precedent for the ratio of the worth of Israeli life to Palestinian life is literally 1:1000. Such are the conditions produced by apartheid.
