It's kind of implied the bloodstain is from whatever caused the soul to be in Kris since that also changes their name from Kris to ours on their save file

I can definitely see that with the floppy "ears", hair and glasses, kind of a sibling figure for Aqua (who Seth keeps trying to get to follow a plan, but Aqua keeps messing it up to have fun). they're also both mega-dweebs.

plus Asriel is, like, very VERY notably, someone who goes off the deep end if his best friend disappears, and since he's looked after Kris for so long of course Kris would want to do something back for him and feel deathly guilty if they failed to do so the one time he really needed them.

Monsters of two different species being a couple, if we are to parallel them to real life queer couples, are not able to procreate with one another due to their biology being different. Like a goat and a cat cannot procreate with each other because they are of a different species. But they exist anyway. And with the subtle heteronormativity shown in hometown it seems that two monsters of the same species being a couple is much more preferable in comparison to those of the same sex (King and Queen of the festival, and usually them being chosen as champions).

And another thing that I’ve noticed is that most of the straight couples are not in happy marriages. Like Toriel and Asgore. It felt more like they came together because that’s what people had expected of them (and of course, attraction I was a part of the equation). Despite them both being the opposite sex of each other and of the same species, they are far from compatible. Asgore is most definitely a closeted bisexual man, while Toriel is much more compatible with Sans, someone who is of a different monster type than her. And, if we were to follow that reading of “queer couples being of two different monster species, Toriel is most definitely some type of queer as well.
