Just made myself really sad thinking about Peggy Carter's funeral in Civil War...
It's just that... Like... All the people we've seen in the MCU who we know were canonically alive & on Earth in CW that knew Peggy Carter well enough (even if it had been a bit since they'd seen her) to be at her funeral but we never saw them there nor was it ever mentioned in passing like "oh yeah, I was at Director Carter's funeral. I just wasn't in the scene bc filming schedules lol."
It haunts me. Margaret "Peggy" Carter deserves better.
Instead of Peggy's friends/colleagues that are known in the MCU, we got a bunch of extras, her niece-kissing ex-boyfriend, his "new best friend", her ex-boyfriend-kissing niece, and POSSIBLY (cause we only see her after literally all the mourners left, though for some reason it seems they left without the coffin or one of the pallbearers) Natasha Romanoff.
Like, are they trying to tell me that Hank Pym wouldn't be there???
This man, who she saved from doing something that would have gotten him thrown in jail while his young daughter needed him (even if he was only going to send her to boarding school instead of talking to her), would not show up to her funeral??? I call your bluff, Marvel.
And what about Tony Stark???? Tony Stank would have absolutely shown up. His parents (especially Howard) AND his childhood butler and the butler's wife were really good friends with Peggy Carter!!! How dare they cut Tony out of her funeral??? Why is Steve the only one that they are allowing to have known Peggy at all???
Like, Nick Fury would have also had reason to go! Even if only undercover!!! He got to be director of SHIELD because she stepped down and chose him as her successor!!!
It's even more upsetting when you take into account the fact that in Winter soldier they had Natasha not have a clue who Peggy Carter was, or at least act like she didn't. Like, no. Peggy Carter was one of the founders of Shield and the director for a long time. Natasha would have known who the fuck Peggy Carter was.
They cancel her show and kill her off in the cinematic universe within two weeks of each other!!!!! The complete and utter disrespect!!!! The nerve of these Marvel executives!!! The way they undervalued Director Margaret "I know my value" Carter in the movies is extremely disturbing.
Peggy Carter deserves the world, but Kevin Feige is too stubborn to give it to her.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Yeah
Iāve had one thing on my mind all day
i hope youre all lying and hyping your cv/resumeās up
i have never gotten an interview and not been offered a job position after it
I mean lets be honest if everyone else is gassing theirs up like no tomorrow and youāre being as honest as you can who th are the recruitment team going to be more interested in
Thereās people working in my banks head office with me WITH MUCH MORE EXPERIENCE than me BUT ARE GETTING PAID LESS
weāre doing the exact same job role
the point Iām trying to make here is if youāve handled finances for a company youāre now what i would call a treasurer my g, if youāve done admin work you are now a secretary (or as Iāve put Management secretary)
you help some kid with his homework? youāre a private tutor.
keep your bullets points for the job role as concise and important sounding as possible AND ALWAYS EMPHASIS THAT YOURE A TEAM PLAYER IF YOURE GOING TO WORK IN A TEAM.
go into that interview room and get your story straight the night before and remember that interviews are two way conversatons yes they might be grilling you but at the end of it make sure to grill them BACK. do you have any hesitations about my qualifications? my suitability for the job? any feedback on my cv? how long have you been working at this company? do you like it here? whats the work environment like?
I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS GET THE SAME FEEDBACK WHEN THEY GET BACK IN TOUCH WITH ME
āive never been asked those questions beforeā / āyou were one of the strongest candidatesā
throughout the interview emphasise that youre about progression, that you want more responsibilities than you did at your previous job, tell them the hours here are more suitable for me than my last ones were, AND WHEN IT COMES TO SALARY NEGOTIATION its all about continuity. tell them again that it boils down to progression. make up a reasonable figure for how much you were paid in your last role (do your research for how much the industry youre applying to or the role youre applying for pays, base it on that) tell them you expect more than you were previously paid. do not give them a figure. progression is your primary focus, tell them if youre progressing youre happy. leave it at that.
LIE THROUGH YOUR TEETH AND GET THAT MONEY
I had an interview yesterday, at the place Iāve been temping, where I busted out the āis there anything about my skills or background that makes you concerned about my fit for this jobā question for the first time.
Neither of my supervisors had never gotten it before either. They had to think for a while, and then it turned into them telling me how great I am and what they love about me.
This stuff is real. I would also say: none of it is lying. This is taking experience that you normally downplay and write off, and putting it in accurate words theyāll understand.
Itās hacking the capitalist system. Why ISNāT helping a kid with homework ātutoringā, when the only thing missing is a paycheck?
Itās especially important for anyone who isnāt a cis white man, because many of us are so thoroughly trained to feel like we are not good enough.
Privilege tells people they can fake it, and that theyāre good enough just as people and can learn the skills on the job. Abuse and oppression tell people they arenāt good enough as people and that even their high skills are probably below average, and that unless they had the specific job title or were using certain skills officially, nobody will think it counts.
The goal is to at least fake the confidence of a privileged person, to give the employer a chance at seeing the skills that youāve been trained to undervalue.
I would also say to answer any query ofĀ āHave you done [X small task] before?ā withĀ āI have, but itās been a while.ā Or,Ā āI have, but it was a slightly different program.ā
100% THEY WILL GLADLY WALK YOU THROUGH EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW, and I stressĀ āgladlyā because claiming prior knowledge boosts their confidence in your abilities and any slips you make are already covered by your caveat.Ā
blackstoic may have deactivated their account but this advice is fucking gold and all yāall looking for jobs or who think you might one day need to look for a new job PRINT THIS SHIT OUT AND STAPLE IT TO THE WALL.Ā

can I get uhh,,,,,, the Russos to stop talking
Steve meets him
Steve meets him, and by some miracle, Steve likes him.
Meeting the man his best girl fell for was not supposed to be this easy.
But Steve likes him.
Daniel Sousa is a good man, Steve can tell. They share a mutual respect almost immediately - both former soldiers, both battle weary. And Steve can tell that he adores Peggy, clearly, and respects her too.
Steve can see the look in Peggyās eyes as she turns to look at Daniel. Itās that soft look that once was directed at him, and still is to some degree in a gentle, nostalgic way. But with Daniel itās the look of a woman actively in love, a woman in love with a good man, a man that loves her in return just as wholeheartedly. Not a woman in love with a ghost, or a memory, or an idea that had never really existed in the first place. Itās the look of a woman with a future unfolding before her.
Steve didnāt know what he was expecting when he arrived on Peggy Carterās doorstep sometime in the 1950s. In hindsight, he should have known sheād see right through him.
Heād been met with pursed lips, narrowed eyes, and a lifted eyebrow, all pulled together by a look that screamed āand what on Earth do you think youāre doing here young man?ā
It had taken Peggy all of ten seconds to realise that this was some sort of futuristic problem. To realise that this was Steve, yes, but it wasnāt her Steve. This wasnāt the Steve that she had lost in the ice, this was someone elseās Steve.
Sheād agreed to the dance, of course. It was a sweet moment, and it made both of them smile fondly. Even if they were the wrong Peggy and the wrong Steve when together, they could do it for their counterparts. It was nice really.
Peggy had offered him tea, and now the cup feels odd and tiny in Steveās hands. Out of place. Daniel smiles at him as warmly as Steve supposes you can smile at your loverās not-exactly-ex-boyfriend. He earns even more of Steveās respect at that.
Peggy tells him about her life now. About Daniel, and how they met, and how theyāre hoping to be married soon. About her darling Angie, her best friend in the world who has been by her side since the very beginning. She tells him about how sheās advancing in her career, how sheās stepping out of the shadows and into a job she can be passionate about. Sheās building pathways, for herself and for women just like her.
Sheās still so determined and passionate to make the world a better place, to do something meaningful with her life, and itās brilliant.
Steve in return tells her roundabouts where he ditched the plane. He tells her that she doesnāt have to go after him, if she doesnāt want to. That heās probably going to be grateful for the rest. The only request he does make, is that her new team go and look for Bucky. That they snatch him from Hydras grasp as fast as they can.
A private smile sits on Peggyās face at that, and the look in her eyes is fond once more. She promises him that sheāll start working on the case at the crack of dawn tomorrow. Theyāll get him out. Theyāll fix him. She will personally keep him safe.
Steve also tells her about the future. Not all of it. Some things he wants Peggy to experience for herself. But he tells her most things about his life. About Tony, Howardās son, and how brilliant he is, and how heās Earths greatest defender, and how Pepper is such a lovely woman. About Sam and Natasha, his brilliant and loyal friends. About Thor, a god with a love of... pop tarts? About Bruce and Clint, and Maria and Fury, about Wanda, about the sheer genius of Shuri the warrior princess, and her brother TāChalla. About Carol Danvers, about Stephen Strange. He tells her about Bucky. That they found him, and heās alive, and heās... not completely ok, but heās getting there.
Peggy looks at him as he finishes his tea. āYouād best be getting back.ā She hums.
Steve looks at her, really looks at her. His best girl. āThank you, Peggy. Thank you.ā
She stands to hug him, and she feels just like she did, and her perfume is just the same. Yet somehow, now, she feels like the past. Like a chapter thatās closing after a satisfying ending.
Daniel raises himself and shakes Steveās hand. āThank you, Captain Rogers. Itās been an honour.ā
Steve can tell that he means it, and a look of understanding passes between them. A Take care of her and an I will. A handing over of the torch.
They walk him to the door, and see him down the drive. Steve turns back and sees them, arms round each other on the doorstep, and suddenly he feels odd.
He feels like a man out of time. This isnāt his place anymore. These streets, this world, these fashions. Heās moved on. He has somewhere else to be now.
He waves to Peggy and Daniel as he readies his Pym particles. He thinks of his family that heās made in the future. His friends, his team.
Heās going back to them, to his present, to his time.
Heās going home.
What can a female character do without being criticized mercilessly?
A Steve endgame ending I would have actually liked (and would have done justice to everyone invovled and their stories)
Steve goes back to deliver the infinity stones, of course he does.
But he drops by at the Stork Club. A week the Saturday after he initially went into the ice. 8PM. Heās only a few minutes late, and Peggy is still waiting.
And they dance. They have their dance, their moment together, their what-could-Have-been.
But Steve knows he has to go. Peggy knows it too, sheās a smart gal, Steveās best gal. She knows that there are great things ahead for both of them, great happinesses and sadnesses but also great lives and loves. For both of them. She recognises that while the time and the love they shared together was beautiful, it was not meant to last. Theyāve had their time; theyāve had their dance.
And itās hard and itās sad and itās awful but they both know itās the right thing to do.
And then quietly, Steve returns to the present. He returns to his future, to his start-over. His chance, now, to lead his life.
He gives Sam the shield. He deserves it, heās been a loyal friend and heās more than capable and deserving of it. He will be a great Cap, and Steve has done more than enough fighting now. Itās time for a break.
And so he retires to a quiet life. Gets a job at a local shop, adopts a cute little dog, and is always on hand to help out the local kids with anything they need.
And he gets to spend time with Bucky. Bucky, his best friend, his home, the person who is most closely connected to his soul. They finally get a chance to figure this out between themselves. Whatever this is. That love, that connection, whatever it was that kept them going, that made them break through brainwashing or drop the shield for 100 years. That unspoken thing that was so wrong back in their time but now maybe, just maybe, is ok.
And thereās a lot to learn. A lot of feelings to sort through and categorise and things to figure out but they do it. They do it because they have the time, and they ending and the opportunity that they deserve, that theyāve worked so hard for.
Peggy is allowed her life, in her time. She is allowed the family she built for herself, she is allowed to fall in love with another man, her husband, she is allowed her career as founder of SHIELD. She is allowed the opportunities to grow as a person and to forge a life for herself. She is allowed the happiness that she found, that she made. And she knows, deep down somewhere, that Steve is happy too. That Steve got the quiet life, and the love, he deserves. And sheās happy for that.
And Steve knows that Peggy was happy. That she lived her life to the full and she experienced joy. Itās the only thing heād want for his best girl.
Everyone involved is emotionally (and often physically) battered and bruised. Theyāve been through a lot. But theyāve carved out their own happiness. Theyāve been given the dignity of the chance to make their own lives, to write their own endings.
And life goes on.
so I saw this the other day and had to write aĀ thing
The Steve Rogers Conundrum andĀ the problem of heteronormativity in Endgame
The Time Rules in Avengers Endgame are as follows: If you go back in time, you cannot change your past. You split time into two branches, one continues on as before and a new alternate reality is born.

This is so eloquently written and perfect! It definitely reflects a lot of my thoughts and feelings - especially with the ideas about Peggy. Maybe falcon and winter soldier will have some answers for us!! Thank you for writing this and giving my some clarity!!! š

Warning ///// endgame spoilers!! (Also tagged) please turn back if you havenāt seen the film yet!
I just wanted to make a quick comment about this (as coherently as I can so apologies for any spelling/grammar errors):
I want to firstly say that I am ABSOLUTELY IN NO WAY suggesting that Peggy āruinedā a ship. Absolutely not. Thatās.... well I mean itās not true for a start, she hasnāt ruined anything, and I adore Peggy, sheās easily one of my favourite characters in the MCU (of all characters, not just female). I hate the thought of someone thinking that I would believe this.
My post about Steveās ending was in NO WAY intended to suggest that Peggy is the bad guy and ruined things. Iām really sorry if this is how it came across because that was absolutely not my intention and I completely understand that if people have viewed it that way they would be very upset. I am very upset to think of it like that too.
My main source of anger is towards the marvel machine for not really acknowledging Steve and buckys relationship in endgame at all. BY RELATIONSHIP I MEAN EITHER A ROMANTIC OR A PURELY PLATONIC BROTHERLY RELATIONSHIP. In my headcanon, I of course suggest that I would be happy for a romantic relationship to grow between them, but I am completely understanding and respectful of anyone who feels that their bond is simply friendship. No matter how you view Steve and Buckyās relationship, I think most of us can agree that they clearly loved each other and were a significant part of each otherās lives. I just wish that more would have been made of this, considering that the captain America trilogy (especially caps 2+3) focus on Steveās love for Bucky and their friendship/relationship/brotherhood (delete as you feel appropriate!) What was shown in endgame, for me, was not enough to reconcile three movies worth of character/relationship/friendship/brotherhood development. (Again, delete as appropriate)
For me personally, I feel that Peggy and Steveās arc was beautiful, and that they most likely were in love in the 40s. I do really enjoy them as a pair, and I am still really happy that Steve got a fairytale ending.
For me personally, however, I also feel that Peggy and Steveās arc was finished with them meeting again in winter soldier, and with Peggyās death in civil war. Peggyās comments in Winter Soldier, in my mind, suggest that she wanted Steve to move on into the future, and that she had been happy with her life and career and what she had done. The final puzzle piece was for her to see him happy.
I also loved agent carter as a TV show, and loved being able to see Peggy in her life continuing to be the beautiful and brilliant woman that we all know she is, despite the loss of a man she truly loved.
Itās because of this that Iām concerned at the way the time travel works and how this all maps out with Peggyās life that she had for herself - her career, her marriage, her family etc. The last thing I would want is for Peggyās storyline and character development to be taken away so she could have a āhappily ever afterā with Steve, especially in a way that indicates, (to me at least, I know itās confusing!) that she may not have had much say in her future. (As Iāve mentioned before there are a lot of theories floating around that say different things so thatās why Iām still so ??? At the minute)
I hope this has clarified my thoughts a bit more (or potentially made them more confusing OTL) and expresses my sincere wishes that NOBODY is attacking Peggyās character for this.
TL;DR - I adore Peggy Carter as a strong female character and my post about my preferred ending was in no way suggesting that she āruinedā anything or that she is just some silly woman who got in the way. i am very sorry if it came across that way. I am so proud of the life Peggy built for herself and a large part of my discomfort for capās ending comes from the questions raised over her life and her choices.
š I will also hold my hands up fully to being a āsalty stucky stanā. My preferred ending would have been for a further development of their relationship (perhaps romantically) but to be honest just some minor acknowledgement of the friendship they shared over the years ALONGSIDE STEVES RELATIONSHIP WITH PEGGY would have been enough for me. As a parting word, again, I have absolutely NO PROBLEMS with anyone who adores Steve and Peggy together and thought the ending was perfect.
Since āHot Tub Time Machineā canonically exists in the MCU, did Sam make Steve and Bucky watch the movie? Did Sam point at Blaine and told Bucky, āDude, that guy looks just like you!ā?
I bet Bucky wasnāt too amused, because Blaine is a real assholeā¦
also public disclaimer I will NOT tolerate Peggy Carter abuse under my roof. I love that woman, I love her character, I love who plays her, I love EVERYTHING. Ok. We can discuss differing views without needing to hate (not that anyone has yet but this is tumblr and Iām..... pre-empting)
kept forgetting to actually have an avatar etc for this account lol Iām an idiot

I agree but then disagree with this. Like I really like it because it would have saved me so many tears, but at the same time I feel realistic Steve in his depressed state would have just clung to the only thing he knew, you know? I guess Iām just happy he got that happy ending he wanted do much. Iām just sad that it came at the cost of his years we could have spent with him. You know?
I completely understand that, but for me I feel after the three cap films and the avengers films I donāt believe Steve thought the only happy thing he knew was Peggy! Although obviously heād lost people he loved in endgame, heād experienced that before. He had Bucky, he had Sam, he had Bruce, he had Clint and the list goes on. Heād seen Peggy again as an old woman, sheād *told* him that sheād lived a happy life, and that she just wanted him to start over. Steve has learnt that you have to move on with your life, to carve out your own happiness (no matter how many times he might have tried to tell us bananas) (Ok this is supposed to be a serious post Iāll stop with the bad jokes)
Iām also somewhat really happy that he got a fairytale ending. Lord knows Steve deserves it. But I just wish that it hadnāt been done at the expense of nearly ten years worth of character building, story lines and emotional responses. I just wish it hadnāt been done at the expense of and amazing strong female character, whose own life and history seems to have potentially been erased (depending on which theories you believe, heh) so that she can finally do the āright thingā and marry a man who (we assume, again, depending on what theories you pick) essentially made that decision for her.

Hello!! I LOVE and adore your writing and thank you so so much for blessing us in a world where not enough Evanstan fanfic exists. Unfortunately, I've made my way through almost your entire AO3. Do you have any recommendations to other Evanstan writers similar to you? Thanks again!!
HMMM I mean I definitely have recs, weāve got some brilliant writers, but I donāt know if Iām a good judge of how similar to me people are!
First, hereās my AO3 Evanstan bookmarks list! So Iād start there. (Which is not to say that there arenāt other awesome fics I donāt have bookmarked, but if youāre interested in things sort of similar to my *personal* favorite tastes, itās not a bad starting-point!)
Right now I am really liking words as crafted by @musette22 and @betoning, as well as the usual suspects - @thebestpersonherelovesbucky, @boopifer, @concavepatterns - and our lovely resident Evanstan fandom Anon, who wishes to stay anonymous on AO3 (I do know who it is) but weaves beautiful stories!
