A South Carolina jury on Monday found a store owner not guilty of murder in the 2023 shooting of a Black 14-year-old.
apparently the murder happened in 2023 after doing some research but the murderer has been found not guilty.
black children get murdered and become victims of hate crimes every fucking day. this is ridiculous
im posting this here despite the website being extremely white centered, I want people to understand how in this country it's basically ok to murder and victimize black people, especially women and children in the name of "self defense" and white America will reward you for your antiblackness.

Good visuals, great sound, fun romp. Story… I dunno. Not quite as meaty as I prefer, don’t really have any thoughts on themes and whatnot straight out of the theater, but let me sleep on it.
Okay, back home, little more time to think on the plot/themes. Talking about everything really vaguely here so no actual spoilers but putting it under a read more to be safe.
There’s something there. Fallibility of memory, habit cycles, I saw someone mention gentrification which I didn’t spot initially but I do now (and honestly? I wish that was pushed further). It wants to talk about something, but I don’t quite know if it manages to say those things. Most we get is “here’s what happens when you refuse to change yourself even if you know it’s bad” re: Clark’s ending. Okay, sure. And what’s it look like when you do decide to change? Not necessarily succeed, just try. I think it wants Mary to fill that role, but it doesn’t quite get there. We see bits and pieces of her past, her current self, but not enough to piece her together in a way that feels like a full character arc, and it’s really not helped with the uncertainty of the ending. A microcosm of the issue exists in a more literal sense in the movie: the wind chimes. We see them consistently, they are clearly meant to mean or connect to something. We don’t ever get much indication of what. The movie emphatically gestures at them but can’t find the words for why they’re there.
It is not a bad movie. Do not look at this and assume I’m trying to tear it down. I just think it stumbles a bit at the end, but I mostly think it’s the result of having to stay in-line with the pre-established Backrooms lore and tone, both developed by Parsons and the internet at large. It doesn’t give itself room to breathe, I don’t think.
If anything, I really want to see what Parsons does next, Backrooms or no. If he’s putting out stuff like this at 20 years old, imagine what he’ll be doing at 30, 40, 50. Assuming he keeps at it, of course, lot of pressure to put on one guy his age.
If I have any additional thoughts later on, I’ll make additions, but I think that mostly sums up my current view of the movie.
