33 and Counting

for me, starving from,

this drought

derived from distance;

A love, lost,

Climbed on top of her, forcing,

Her heart in her chest, racing,

There were two of them.

Her arms and her legs, flailing,

Rolling off the bed, scrambling,

Now she's in the closet, hiding,

And she got away.

He was on her body, lying,

Now he's on the TV, lying,

He's going to get away, today,

we will return to the earth, buried eternal,

I see your eyes that are nothing,

your frame that is far too frail,

your angular stance, awkward gate,

and hands that are forever empty.

You are the bitter taste,

stuck sore in my throat,

catch cold in my chest,

and my ribs burn to fire

from pressure of overexpansion,

I think of footprints on the moon-

and, as they are eternal,

they will never fade,

and they will never blow away.

Footprints on the moon are forever;

And my breath is still,

abruptly-

like some of us longed for,

in secret, in shame;

And now we don't dare,

we won't utter,

(keep silent, keep still)

these unspoken words of

as to think, consider,

that the world will go on;

in those soft blue eyes, translucent;

And now this magic sky, tonight,

my love.

In sunlight, I escape,

these thoughts of you,

at bay-

and daylight fades,

and evening falls,

and heavy ache returns.

I am heartsick, haunted,
