If you absolutely need to keep track of ratings and also don't want to private your bookmarks, there is another option. Use an extension like ao3rdr which lets you give all fics star ratings and saves your ratings and displays them on AO3 and your bookmarks, but only to you.

Should also work on mobile with firefox. Has a function to sync across devices and download backup files of your ratings as well.

But yes, this is really poor taste. I'd block anyone I saw doing this to my fics.

This is a nice video showing an blind/invisible stitch, which is quite useful for repairing tears or finishing something (ex. cushion).

Also, that extra step for putting back the seam is really nice.
