I am making a big life decision. I am going to adopt a kitty from my local shelter. I am already buying so much stuff for her. I'm so excited it is hard to sleep. I've had dogs before, but never a cat. My question is: what advice can you give a new cat/kitten owner?

The best advice I can think of since you have a history as a Dog Dad is don’t expect a cat to behave like a dog does. Sounds obvious but a lot of dog people don’t realize you’re just… not going to train a cat the same way you can train a dog. Cats are very independent creatures. You’re honestly signing up for a roommate more than a pet in some ways.
Respect the cat’s boundaries but especially if he or she is young don’t be afraid to push them a little, like picking them up, handling them a lot, messing with them gently to get them used to human contact.

The backstories: My bandmate recently bought a mic and stand for our band and I put it together. Please ignore the mess. My sweet niece gave me an awesome pick as a birthday present last month. On Halloween, my work had a costume contest and I was the only one in my department who dressed up (as a work convict) so I wrote "Finance 4 Lyfe" on my arm among other accountant-related things. I ran over something and my tire expoded. I voted. *that rhymed!* One shoe was missing a string so I took one off my other shoes I don't wear.
