This is the shit I want a phone to do. Not a screen that folds in the middle where the flex-point will destroy the screen in under a year. Not something as thin as a business card with a half-hour of battery life. Give me a keyboard that comes out like a switchblade. Give me a camera that expands out like a Psycho-Pass Dominator. I'm going to be stuck with my OnePlus 7 Pro for the rest of my life just for the stupid little pop-up camera. Phones should DO STUFF.

i just can't convey the frustration and sorrow that it's been to grow up at first without the internet and then watching it bloom into this useful, fun, connecting force you sometimes spent time on, only for it to degrade into this constant oppressive waste of time and energy where people are constantly pumping out algorithmically designed content for max algorithmic appeal and even the most simple search generates either no results or an infinite abyss of ai generated slop none of which is usable or correct. we briefly had a library of alexandria and then fed it into a paper shredder so advertisers could sell a random mash of pulp back to us at a premium.

i think everyone needs to adopt "i didnt say it was good, i said i liked it" into their vocabulary right now. it did me wonders

"i want to show my friends the media i enjoy but its not considered good so i wont" is such a bad thought process. i once made my friends watch my favourite childhood movie with me which has a 1% rating on rotten tomatoes and i cackled with glee as they groaned in agony for an hour and a half. but yknow what? thats what friends are for.

I have been referring to media this way for a long time. In general, I think of something "good" as having some combination of a meaningful message, historical value, or innovative premise, plus effective execution by the cast and crew. Something "enjoyable" likely has big robots, lasers, maybe a talking cat, that sort of thing. The best movies are obviously both good and enjoyable, while the worst movies are neither. Movies that are good but not enjoyable are often "Oscar bait" or important classics you need to watch once but probably wouldn't watch again. Enjoyable but not good are the junk-food movies that you watch for an escape and laugh the whole time. There's a place for all of these (even, I'd argue, the Bad/Unenjoyable, though only occasionally).

This is what I imagine it's like when left-handed people use tools designed for right-handed people. Just like a 10-15% chance of spontaneous detonation.

What's that? Having to take the time, money, and effort to convert all those office towers into housing would be inconvenient for you? Really disruptive to your work-life balance? Wow, that's rough, guess you'd better die about it.
