hello! my name is Cyrus Novak, and I’m finally back from my year-and-a-half hiatus. wow, it’s been a while. I certainly didn’t mean to abandon tumblr for that long! but a lot of stuff happened, and life was simply chaos for a while. now that things have calmed down I’m excited to be back to my projects, and back to writeblr.
so! about me. I’m in my early thirties, I’m non-binary and transmasc, and my pronouns are he/him or they/them, no preference. I live in the midwest. I’m attempting to return to college to complete my degree, though in what, I’m still deciding.

one of my favourite writing stylistic Things ™: using a phrase as a sort of repetition, but slightly modifying it little by little as the story goes on and the events of the story progress
the “bad guys” in hallmark movies end up always being the most respectful men ever.
because they will find out their girlfriend of 3 years (that they were about to propose to) went off to a random farm in minnesota, hours away from were the two of them built a life together, and she decided to just… stay there without even consulting him.
and then he decides to take a trip to make sure she’s okay, because this is generally alarming behavior, and then sees that she literally fell in love with her ex within one (1) week- and he wasn’t there, but you can TELL that they’ve made out a couple times.
and then she just strings him along for a few days, until fucking christmas eve, when she just breaks up with him and is like “i know we used to have the same values, but i’ve never loved you. mark makes me happier than you ever did. and you ONLY care about work, whereas i like christmas and fun, like a Good Person.”
and then, after finding out his entire relationship was a lie and he had his life turned upside down in a week and he got dumped on christmas, this guy’s just like “ok yeah that makes sense. i only wish you the best of happiness with mark. i hope you guys build a great life together in christmastreefarmville. thank you for everything.”

general writing advice, actually: you don’t need an excuse beyond “BUT WOULDN’T THIS BE COOL” to write something into your fic. write things in solely because they make you cackle with the delight of a 12-year-old-boy playing with his dinosaur toys. it’s fun and there’s nothing stopping you or any of us at all any longer.
It’s about time we have a fictional princess who actually enjoys being a princess.
She enjoys the politics. She enjoys the diplomacy. And she enjoys the balls and banquets and attention and pretty dresses and that doesn’t make her a dumb shallow bimbo or some regressive anti feminist handmaid or whatever the kids say these days about women who don’t fall in line with their Strong Female Character power fantasies.
All the princesses urging for ‘something more’ that’s all fine and good but I’m ready to see a princess who appreciates that being a princess is already a lot!
Honestly I’m also down with a princess who understands that not getting to, like, freely pick your husband is part of the deal. You get to eat essentially as much as you like, are filthy rich, and, even if you live in a male-line-only type of monarchy, you have the ear of the ruler of the country, who’s either your father or your husband. Your literally one of the top five most powerful people in the nation in any constellation. The only people who officially outrank you are your parents - who will die eventually - your husband, and possibly the equivalent of the pope. Have some bloody gratitude, you know?
Also your proposal would make for a dope story because doing politics and diplomacy was what being a noble lady was all about, and the “ugh I have to dress up pretty for the male nobles who are slobbering all over my hand when greeting me and no one takes me seriously because I’m a woman” was, like, never true in at the very least European monarchies. Not sure about other countries. I know the Chinese Empress and Mother of the Emperor were a huge deal, at least, but that might have just been those two, not noble women in general.
Exactly. Like surely there were some princesses under very oppressive circumstances but the vast majority had access to some of the best education available at the time, weren’t dying of starvation or cold, wearing the best crafted garments available, and yeah had a lot more influence than people today give them credit for.
