Hi! I love you're blog, it's really helpful! I just wanted to ask for some idioms in French that are commonly used and so when I use it in my work it sounds more native and natural? I need to use idioms to get an A/A* so it would be really great to get a bunch I can use that sound natural!
Bonjour! Thank you! I messaged my French exchange student and asked her, and she told me these:
“jamais 2 sans 3″ - if there has been 2, there will always be a third
“poser un lapin” - to be stood up
“ça ne sent pas la rose” - it stinks (she said she uses that one a lot but doesn’t know if it is widely used)
“avoir l’esprit mal placé” - seeing a sexual connotation when it’s something normal (I think it means something like “to have a dirty mind”)
“cordon bleu” - someone who is good at cooking
“mêle toi de tes oignons” - mind your own business (she said people use this all the time)
“baisser les bras” - to give up (she said this one is also said all the time)
“être de mauvaise foi” - if someone is being stubborn/not admitting they’re wrong when they know they are (I looked up this one and it said “to be dishonest/disingenuous” and “in bad faith” also)
“ça n’a ni queue ni tête” - it doesn’t make any sense
Those are all the ones she gave me! Here is another post of idioms I found on tumblr, and here is another. I would make sure to check these with your teacher before you use them to make sure that the marker will recognise them and give you credit for them. Good luck in your exams!
