Historic little 1799 former mill, (not a water wheel mill), in Starksboro, VT, has 1,656sqft, 2bds, 2ba, $775k (Zillow's est.: $724,300). It's a real piece of Vermont history and basically all original.

we started the fertility process in June 2024. not counting the year prior of like, gearing up & talking to my family doctor and stuff. and at best we can hope for a positive pregnancy test in September 2026.
and that's for a "funded cycle." the procedures cost somewhere around $20k, so of course we went for it. and waited for it.
but we also have to spend tens of thousands on other costs. Lawyer ($2,500). Various non-OHIP-funded blood tests ($200). Mandatory psychological counselling ($900). Mandatory eugenics genetic counselling ($500). Mandatory Third Party Reproduction Screening ($3,000). Sperm freezing / storage costs ($950 per year). IVF medication ($7,000). train tickets ($2000). who knows how much in prenatal vitamins (which I've been taking this whole time, because like... we never knew what was happening and when).
and OHIP only covers one cycle. if we don't get enough embryos this summer, we have to do much of this process over again, but this time we'll have to pay in full.

I've seen some posts trying to make fun of former gifted kids by comparing them to former student athletes who insist that they could have gone pro if not for a specific injury, and those posts always backfire, because my reaction to them is "You're right, we should treat former student athletes with more compassion than we currently do"
I went from being very physically active to getting the "your body doesn't make energy properly anymore" disability so I can completely understand the grief that comes with circumstances outside your control destroying parts of you you were once proud of and locking you out of the life you could have had. It's not a good feeling.
