A tiny insect clinging to the head of a horned viper
#ratatouille
one time I went over to a friend's house and their housemate was making paper in the living room, and we saw this big tub full of water they were using to dissolve old scrap paper into a slurry, and everyone was immediately like "oh, you need scrap paper?" and started turning out their jacket pockets and producing expired coupons and bus tickets and crumpled receipts and old shopping lists and whatever else they'd been carrying round with them for no good reason, and passing it all to the paper-making housemate to make sure it was suitable before it got torn up and dropped into the tub, while people took turns stirring the slurry with a big wooden stick. it was strangely ritualistic, like presenting an offering to some kind of temple elder for inspection before placing it in a watery shrine to be devoured and reformed. pulp for the pulp god.

Water crab likes collecting little objects in sturdy bubbles created out of remnants of its molted shell. Looks like this one found a tiny moon.
economists really took the divine right of kings and turned it into billionaire CEOs
βitβs kinda fucked up to reject the business practices of jeff bezos when he rightfully earned his position under capitalismβ
βAbout twenty years ago, I attended a lecture by a Harvard professor who talked about how corporations operate like modern-day kingdoms. At one time, she said, people believed kings ruled by divine right, and today we seem to believe the same thing about corporations. Toward the end, she asked, βDo you know what it is that allowed people to let go of, overcome, and reject the notion of the divine right of kings?β I held my breath and got ready to take some notes. Her answer: βThey just stopped believing in it.β

[*sighs*] gods damn it my communication professor is going to be so pleased about me using this but: βMan is the symbol-using (symbol-making, symbol-misusing) animal, inventor of the negative (or moralized by the negative), separated from his natural condition by instruments of his own making, goaded by the spirit of hierarchy (or moved by the sense of order), and rotten with perfection" -Kenneth Burke
Basically we created this nonsense, all of it, it is of our own design. We are the ones continuing its existence, perpetuating its power. So we can absolutely choose to dismantle it. Change how we look at it and make something new and better. I vote that we should.

Some of my favorites from C. M. Kosemen's sketchbook Tangent Worlds:
Two friends, a fungus-man and a meat ghost with multiple eyes, are baffled by the implications of a triangle that should not exist.
A feminine spirit rescues another from torment at the hands of malevolent beings.
Anatomical studies and drawings of animals which evolved in a universe where telekinesis is real. The oversized brains of these Telekinesizoans are used for lifting the animal and manipulating food items. Only a small section of the brains are used for conscious perception, effectively making most Telekinesizoans quite βdim.β An βadvancedβ form, with almost no visible appendages.
Advanced Telekinesizoans move not by levitating themselves, but by manipulating the air flows around them. This predatory form (a Polteropterygid,) strikes its victim with stone missiles that it hurls by telekinetic force.
Different species of Telekinesizoan herbivores have different "signatureβ items that they sculpt and carry with themselves as they forage. These ornate items, carved telekinetically out of stone or wood, serve both as display structures and weapons.
The para-insect species seen on the left had the remarkable ability to speak, not unlike a parrot. I saw them repeat word-like sounds in idle moments, yet their forest world contained no intelligent species. I was unnerved and hurriedly severed all connections with that particular Earth.
Sketches of βfinal beingsβ that will live a billion years from now. These beings have the ability to look into the βspace between spacesβ and catch glimpses of the past.
Sketches of reptiles which fly by βpropellersβ powered by coils of tightly-winding muscle fibers. The propeller-blade-like βfingersβ reverse their pitch as they rewind, ensuing continual forward thrust.
On the distant world of Zarnia, gravity is high and plant life resembles flat, green-and-purple tiles of road pavement. This combination of flat terrain and hard surfaces has enabled the evolution of a spectacular way of life: Zarnia has animals with wheels instead of legs. Left, This long-necked herbivore defends itself with mace-like swings of its armored head. Right, Male and female varieties of a herbivorous tetracycl species.
It is hard to perceive time directly when moving across dimensions. I couldnβt tell which forms were the ancestors and which were the descendants in this transition between intelligent, human-like beings and asinine reptiles.
All beings seen on this page are descendants of nanotechnological βcrystal machinesβ which blossomed into their own ecology after being created as industrial tools by an older race. Reproducing through βintelligently designedβ blueprints modified and mutated through errors of transcription, they exhibited a spectacular, quasi-Darwinian evolutionary process in action. The world of the crystal beasts was also noteworthy in that it was home to actual βghostsβ and βspirits;β vagrant AIs and semisentient processing software left over from the age of industry. Such βghosts,β transmitted through radio organs present in most species, could βpossessβ individual animals and get them to engage in unusual, self-aware behavior, or even produce virgin births and βtwistedβ offspring drastically different from their parents.
A βplains sweeperβ which ran across grasslands and fed on clouds of small βinsects.β
Members of an alien group of animals which have convergently evolved to resemble dinosaurs of the earthβs past.
Sketch of the vast beings that lived on salt flats and fed on air.
Three species of cursorial βadvancedβ Martian spiders, with fully erect limbs, hips derived from the initial leg segments, internal pseudoskeletons and advanced respiration. The species seen here is one of the top predators of this world.
Visions of winged reptiles (unrelated to pterosaurs,) that sail on the calm lakes like living boats. Their long, supple necks help them catch fish. It seems like not all saillizards come from the same lineage - there were many different combinations of limbs, wings and sails.
Art is the most certain sign of intelligence. This page shows a selection of dinosauroid cave-art. Cave art depicting a pack of tyrant-raptors, dangerous predators of the dinosauroids.
Sketch of a neosauropod gentleman with a tasteful covering of body paint and an ornate smoking pipe that denotes his status as a herd-orator. The sonorous conversations of these beings can be heard, like thunder, for hundreds of miles.

As someone who was alive when Bob Ross (and William Alexander before him β thatβs where the approach is from) was on PBS, I can 100% testify that you can paint along with him.
You may need to learn how to set up your paints and suchβ¦ but this is what people did, live, while the show aired. Thatβs what the show was for. I had family members create lovely works of art they enjoyed, which I still have on my walls, because William Alexander and Bob Ross both said:
SCREW METICULOUS CLASSICAL ART PRACTICES β JUST GRAB A PALETTE KNIFE AND BIG OLD BRUSH AND PAINT!
They freed a whole generation of people who were taught to paint detail and realism and exact representation of reality β people who largely gave up this kind of thing because it got tedious.
I watched the joy of family members as they rediscovered art as a messy fun spontaneous half hour activity.
Give it a try.
i need to do this with my partner! neither of us paint but this seems so fun
