For the interwoven wha fashion zine!
The World War II-era "Simple Sabotage Field Manual" is full of steps that office workers can take to resist leadership.
A declassified World War II-era government guide to “simple sabotage” is currently one of the most popular open source books on the internet. The book, called “Simple Sabotage Field Manual,” was declassified in 2008 by the CIA and “describes ways to train normal people to be purposefully annoying telephone operators, dysfunctional train conductors, befuddling middle managers, blundering factory workers, unruly movie theater patrons, and so on. In other words, teaching people to do their jobs badly.” Over the last week, the guide has surged to become the 5th-most-accessed book on Project Gutenberg, an open source repository of free and public domain ebooks. It is also the fifth most popular ebook on the site over the last 30 days, having been accessed nearly 60,000 times over the last month (just behind Romeo and Juliet).

Gosh it would be a shame if this got even MORE visibility.
Whoops my cursor slipped.
The end doesn't always feel like it. People come and go; they slip through the door when you're not looking and never come back. Sometimes there are no goodbyes.
— Kevin Hazzard, American Sirens
I'm going to do another mokuhanga artist in residence program in little over a month. I had to submit a project plan for my application, but for that I only needed to describe what I wanted to do. It's based on the picture below I made in Hamarikyu gardens in Tokyo.
I'm sure there's time to sketch and stuff during the program, but considering the fact that I like detail and thus it will take a while to carve out each block, I thought it best to start now. This is a quick sketch to see of the separation and layering of colours I planned works. I think it does! If this is correct I will need six wood blocks (or three when I use both sides) for eight colours.
I'm not done sketching though. I want to experiment with the shape of the clouds in any case. I think it might also be smart to make a digital sketch, because with watercolours I can only add shapes and colours, and a digital drawing will allow me to simulate carving stuff out.

Weirdly into being one of the absurd mass of people who, at two in the morning today, remembered how boss the 2015 Studio Killers song “Jenny” is.
On the other hand, why??? How are we all here?
Last week I went out to a lake in Appalachia and I made a zine about changing, about moving forward, about the most frightening and meaningful dream I've ever had.

the sewing machine is like if a horse and an inkjet printer had a child
This only applies to the modern show breeds of sewing machines. Heritage breeds like the Singer 27, 15, 66, and 201 are docile and extremely hardy. They're easy keepers, requiring oil and the occasional light bulb to maintain working condition. Treadle and crank varieties thrive on an electricity-free diet. Injuries, while rare, are quickly resolved thanks to a thriving aftermarket parts trade. In cases of severe neglect, percussive maintenance via sledgehammer can restore motion.
If you make goth clothing, decor, accessories, etc
please
please please please
please stop putting crosses on literally everything.
I know that they're a staple of goth fashion. I know. But not everyone is Christian. Not everyone wants to wear or surround themselves with Christian symbols. There are a lot of goths who would die happy if we they never had to see a cross again. Please.
This really resonated with folks, huh.

Queer joy detected!
Have you ever had a piece of clothing that left a strangely lasting impression on you? For example, one guy told me that ever since the 1970s, when his family counselor wore a patterned silk blouse, he's been fascinated by blouses ever since. I thought that was oddly specific and memorable. What's your version of that story?
Oh, this is such a lovely ask.
Not quite the same, but my mother sewed a few things for me as a child, and it was a proof of concept: Clothes are made by someone, and that someone can be you.
So, rather than a singular type of garment, an artist (of many a medium) will post their beautiful work, and it sparks a place in my brain that wants to bring that outfit/silhouette/piece into the world.
Only a few of my creations have been posted here recently, but at this point, the majority of my clothing was constructed (or modified) by me.
