setup steps:

click the code link above — it’ll open a long block of code. copy all of it (don’t include the title). it’s way easier to do this on desktop since mobile has copy limits🍒

on AO3, go to your username → dashboard → skins → create site skin

give it a unique title, paste the CSS you copied, then scroll down and hit submit

once it’s created, just click “use” to apply the skin 🪽

𓅨 How can i not make my favorite visual novel ever as a site skin when i got the skill and will to do that. There's various routes you can choose in this game so making a skin that captured all of them is impossible for me, so i'm mostly focus on one route which is The Nightmare route. Voice of the Paranoid is one of my favorite voices in the game, his constant "Heart. Lungs. Liver. Nerves." blend in with the horror element and dark atmosphere that The Nightmare brings is just so good, it's thrilling and unnerving at the same time.

Tutorial how to activate the skin + the code :

Copy the code i provided in this GitHub, there is a copy button at the top right(•••) of the code box. And here if you prefer Google doc.

‌Sign to your AO3 account, after that go to "Dashboard".

‌On your "Dashboard", tap on a section called "Skins".

‌On the "Skins" page, tap on the button labelled "Create Site Skin".

‌Give your site skin a unique title, i usually use 2-4 word for the skins that i saved. IF YOUR SKIN NAME IS NOT UNIQUE, YOU CAN'T SAVE THE SKIN.

‌Paste the codes you copied from my GitHub into the "CSS" box.

‌When you're done, scroll to the bottom of the page and click a button labelled "Submit". This will save your site skin and take you to a new page where you can see the title of your skin as well as all of the code.

‌Click "My Site Skin" and you can see the skin are added, press "Use" to activate it.

I've been poking away at this one for a few weeks now but I finally put in the effort to finish it off.

I don't remember the last time I was quite this excited about a skin that I'm making. I have no idea if all of this will end up in the final version, but I'm just having so much fun with seeing what I can actually do that I wanted to share some work in progress shots.

(honestly? the hardest part has been finding the images. any tips on where to get medieval illuminated artwork would be much appreciated!)

In all of AO3’s history, how many instances has there been in which a fandom with over 100 or over 1000 fics has had a platonic relationship be the most written one, appearing at the top of the dropdown list?

Because I can only think of one (2 if you count both book and movie): Project Hail Mary.

And I’d really like to know whether there’s any others.

This isn't necessarily an exhaustive list (especially if the same pairing appears in multiple fandom tags, which many of these do), but I used my AO3 Ship Stats data to try to find a few of the largest fandoms where the largest relationship tag is a platonic one:

I've tagged the relationship as the top-line item, with the fandoms right below -- so you'll see Peter Parker & Tony Stark twice, for both the Spider-Man and Iron Man fandoms (I thought it was interesting to compare the size of the ship in each fandom) and similar for the two PHM fandoms. I also split the number of works into those that have the Gen category and those that do not; I figured that the platonic ship might be a background ship in the ones that aren't tagged Gen:

If we look at this graph (and the underlying data), the main ship from Project Hail Mary looks relatively tiny -- which makes sense, given that that fandom is new and the others have all had much longer to grow! But what's particularly interesting is what happens when we look at the same ships as percentages of their fandoms:

I've once again sorted the data by the number of works that are Gen and therefore likely to actually be platonic. (I also showed how much of the rest of the fanworks in the fandom are tagged Gen outside of the biggest relationship.) In this view, PHM leads the pack -- both book and movie! It'll be really interesting to see if anything changes as the fandom grows.
