I think that wider societal attitudes on veganism have actually improved, especially on the left. But being on Tumblr specifically can easily skew your view on this, so it is not a good indicator of how the general public feel. Attitudes towards vegetarianism and veganism in progressive spaces has absolutely become much more positive over the last ten years, but Tumblr is not a progressive space when it comes to animals. People are generally deeply (and often weirdly) conservative about animal rights here.

The majority of people on tumblr are progressive on every issue except animal rights, it is a microsm where the knee-jerk defensiveness of 2015 has survived and morphed into this widespread pretence that veganism is not only unnecessary but actually Bad. This has gotten worse here over time because it is such an echo chamber of mutual back-patting and everyone making each other feel about being complicit in widespread environmental destruction, exploitation and slaughter.
