After the incident with the door, Bowser's tail had swollen, and a minor bloody wound had appeared on his skin, caused by being dragged through the closed door. Despite this, the tail didn't appear to be welt-wound, just severely bruised. Mario assured him it was best to leave it alone, as it would heal sooner or later. But Luigi wouldn't feel comfortable with that. After all, the princess had trusted them, leaving the palace in their care, and above all... Luigi couldn't ignore any creature in physical pain. And since Bowser was involved, the feeling of grief was redoubled.
Bo: ...No...
Lu: Good. Try to stay still for me. I will disinfect the wound and apply a dressing.
Luigi wiped bloodstain off of Bowser's wound as gentle as he could. But Bowser hissed when the neomycin-soaked cotton ball touched his skin.
Bo: Hey! It stings! Be more gentle!
Bowser gave him an angry look, full od pain and disappointment. It made Luigi feel ashamed and guilty.
Lu: Me dispiace! It's beacuse your tail is so small!... I'll do it for you as guickly as I can, and while I'm doing it, think of something nice like ...
Luigi thought for a moment. What could the Koopa's King find particulary pleasant right now?
Bo: ... Princess Peach?
L: ...
Bo: She hates me... still.
Lu: No! I... I don't think so... But, well... Maybe...
Lying was never Luigi's strong suit. It went against his nature.
Bo: She doesn't trust me. That's what Mario said.
Lu: Lack of trust is not hatred. ... Just like trust is not love.
Bowser hangs his head and a strange shadow falls on his face.
Bo: Never mind. I don't need her trust.
Lu: Maybe you can still win her over if you really want it. You know, you are not the one you used to be.
Luigi felt strange pang in his chest at the thought od Bowser's feeling for the Princess. Far worse than neomycin on the skin.
Bo: I feel happy and sad at the same time when I think about her... You won't understand it, Luigi.
Bowser finished stiffly.
Luigi fell silent not knowing how to comment on Bowser's completely false thesis. In reality, the plumber knew exactly what it was like to feel two extremes of emotion towards someone. Happiness at the thought of spending time with him and sadness at the thought of a one-sided feeling. Of course, everything was kept secret from Bowser.
Only when he saw Bowser's surprised look did he realize he had been silent for too long.
Lu: All right!
He tried to sound natural and cheerful.
Lu: Let's take care of your tail.
Bowser looked confused. The combination of the huge smile and sad eyes on Luigi's face gave him a comical look. Besides, the smile was far too big to be genuine.
Lu: Now trust me and sing a "Happy- Peach-song" on your head.
Bowser didn't understand what Luigi meant.
He ignored it, even though the thought was actually nagging at him. Sitting with his back to Luigi, he couldn't look at his face anymore. Did it look normal yet? Why did he even care now? To drive away the strange, unnecessary thoughts, he decided to hum a song he'd composed for Peach long ago. The idea didn't quite take off when he felt a touch on the swollen wound. Not like before. It wasn't the stinging sting of neomycin, it was like the gentle brush of Luigi's fingers, holding him gently to wrap a bandage around it, then checking to make sure it wasn't too tight. Although his tail still throbbed with pain, the touch wasn't bothersome. It was pleasant. He felt butterflies fill his stomach, and he fought the muscles in his face to keep from smiling. He was careful not to turn to Luigi, not knowing what feeling he was feeling at that moment and whether his own eyes would give him away.
Lu: It's all over now. Good job, Bowser.
A calm voice snapped him out of his thoughts.
Lu: Is the dressing not pressing on you anywhere? Can you move your tail?
There was no trace of the strange combination on Luigi's face. Now his eyes were filled with concern and anxiety.
Bowser simply nodded, unsure if he had regained control of his facial muscles. If he couldn't control his own body, who knew what words would escape his mouth the moment he opened them...
Lu: Va bene!
There was obvious relief on Luigi's face and finally a genuine smile.
Lu: That wasn't so bad, was it? Now take care of yourself. And this time, be careful with the doors. You don't want to go through that again, do you?
Bowser looked at his tail. It was beautifully and securely bandaged. He touched it, but the feeling he had felt when Luigi touched it was gone.
Lu: It'll heal soon, and until then, if it's bothersome, think of something nice like... Princess Peach.
Luigi winked.
Bowser rolled his eyes, which made Luigi chuckle.
The memory of the plumber's touch immediately stirred butterflies in his stomach. The feeling was so fascinating that he subconsciously brushed the memory of Peach away like a pesky fly...
Yeah, this story (belowe) is based on the movie, sometime after Bowser, Luigi, and Mario's conversation about the painting for Peach, so theoretically the next scene should have been Jr. appearing, but I just had an idea and ran with it. Can we assume this is an alternate scenario, or not think about it at all? 😂😅
Who knows what inspired me to write this. If you don't like it, that's fine with me. ;) If you like it, I'm honored. It was a rather spontaneous endeavor...

A tender embarrassment ~~
(Part 1)
It had been a long and very busy day. Taking care of the entire kingdom while the princess was away was no small task. While the brothers had managed brilliantly, there was no point in deluding themselves; the next day would be just as busy, as would the next, and the one after that. Luigi settled comfortably on the large couch in the princess's library, with Yoshi snuggled up against him. In the adjacent armchair, Mario struggled wearily. Though something was clearly troubling him. Luigi had no doubt what it was.
Luigi: Don't worry about Peach! She'll be fine! She's fearless and brave.
Mario: I know, I'm not worried. There's nothing she can't handle, it's just... she shouldn't be there alone...
Mario visibly frowned.
Lu: Alone? Toad's with her! You can count on him, you know! You've traveled through so many lands together.
Luigi winked at his brother, but it didn't seem to help.
Ma: The point is, I am the one who should have been there with her...
Mario confessed in a hushed voice and assumed a closed posture.
Luigi grabbed his brother's arm tightly and shook him in his characteristic way.
Lu: But who else could she trust more than you to manage all the kingdom's affairs? Who else can she count on for everything, and who else never lets her down?
Despite his tiredness, Luigi sounded very energetic and convincing, which brought an immediate smile to Mario's face, even though he tried to hide it at first.
Ma: "Us"!
Mario noticed.
Ma: I definitely couldn't have done it without you!
He embraced his brother warmly and pulled him closer when he felt a weight on his lap. It was Yoshi. He rested his head and stares with large blue eyes.
Ma: Well, you have a part in this too!
He ruffled it affectionately, and Luigi kissed its large green nose, which immediately set Yoshi's tail in motion.
Mario stretched and yawned.
Ma: Okay, guys! Time for bed. I'm exhausted!
Lu: Same I'm.
All three moved towards the exit.
Lu: I guess today nothing will hap-.
Luigi's words were interrupted by a squeal and agitated voices that echoed through the castle's empty corridors. They were probably quite distant, only the echoes allowed them to be heard clearly. The brothers exchanged quick glances, and Mario dashed down the empty, dark corridor. Luigi and Yoshi barely caught up with him. They stopped at the end of the corridor, right in front of Bowser's chamber. They found two toads there. This both calmed and confused the brothers.
They were no longer screaming, but they also seemed oblivious to the plumbers' presence. One was putting out the other's soot-stained vest with his hands, while the former wiped grease from his face.
Ma: What happened here?
Mario finally caught their attention, and only now could they see that not only was one of them's face and vest covered in smoke. They also had deep scratches all over their arms, and one of them even had several scratches on his face.
Ma: You look like you've been fighting a Piranha Plant.
The toads looked at each other helplessly, and seeing their mutual condition, they only grimaced.
Ma: What are you even doing here at this hour? In such a condition...?
Toad: It's because of the prisoner...
Ma: Because of Bowser?
Both toads stiffened at the sound of that name.
Lu: Why did he do this to you?
Mario gave Luigi a pointed look, as if being Bowser wasn't enough to make someone's life miserable.
But the toads didn't even bother explaining, and one of them held out a long, white, torn bandage towards them.
Toad: His tail... it's swollen... and bleeding.
The brothers looked at each other in resignation. They remembered the incident with the door from earlier that afternoon.
Ma: Leave him alone. If he doesn't want help, he can do without it.
Mario waved his hand casually, and the toads visibly sighed with relief, ready to obey the plumber's command at once.
Mario rubbed his tired face, sighed, and hurried toward the exit. Only after a few steps did he notice that his brother and Yoshi were still standing at the chamber door. When he called out, he was met with a worried look from Luigi.
Lu: Maybe we should do something?
Mario groaned, his head pounding, and he felt that if he didn't lie down soon, he might not be able to get up tomorrow. Normally, he would indulge in an educational lecture about Bowser and his treatment of Luigi in the Dark Land. This happened so often that he ran out of ideas on how to phrase the topic without sounding monotonous. Besides, this wasn't the time for such wisdom.
Ma: Lu, do you want to end up like them?
Lu: I'll just check in and see if everything's alright. The princess left us in charge of not only her people but also the prisoners. I know contact with Bowser bothers you, so let me handle this.
Mario couldn't resist those puppy-dog eyes of his younger brother. It was his secret weapon. Besides, when he set his mind to something, there was no force that could demotivate him, and although he was grateful to his brother for his dedication, he felt deep down that this wasn't entirely about the princess. He looked at him indulgently, yet with pride in his eyes.
He put his hand on his brother's shoulder, but Luigi pushed him playfully.
Ma: You never cease to amaze me, Luigi. But maybe I'd better go with you. You know... We shouldn't trust him entirely...
Lu: I'll manage. And if he's particularly terrible, I'll take your advice and leave him alone.
Ma: Yeah...
Mario sincerely doubted these promises. His need and desire to help, and the plumber's inscrutable ability to see the good in everyone, didn't seem to let him give up. Especially lately.
Luigi cupped Yoshi's face in his hands
Lu: Go home with Mario. I'll be back soon, I promise!
Yoshi reluctantly followed Mario, who spun around behind Luigi a few more times before disappearing around a bend in the corridor.
When the younger brother was alone, he turned to the stressed toads.
Lu: Come inside. I'll take care of you too.
He encouraged with a smile, but the toads just grimaced and looked at each other in panic.
Lu: There is nothing to be afraid of.
Toad: But since you're here... I mean, you don't need us anymore, right?
The second one immediately supported his words.
Toad: We admire your courage.
He assured, slowly retreating further into the corridor.
Toad: Really sorry...
They both took to their heels.
"Courage"? That word was rarely used in reference to him, and while a face-to-face confrontation with a physically normal version of Bowser did indeed send shivers down his spine, "small" Bowser was a completely different story. When he was in a good mood, there was even something... sweet and charming about him? Should he be afraid of him? Well, the state he'd reduced both toads to is proof that he shouldn't be messed with after all.
He quietly entered the chamber and headed towards Bowser's chamber. The miniature castle was far more pleasant to look at than the gilded cage. He heard a faint growl from deep within the castle, which alarmed him. This time, Bowser was truly furious. Luigi, as was his habit, peered through one of the windows. In the darkness, all he could see was shell, its spikes strangely sharper than usual.
Lu: B-Bowser?
Bowser: Go away, leave me alone!
Even with his high-pitched voice, there was no doubt that Bowser wasn't joking.
Lu: I thought... maybe you needed help.
He offered enthusiastically, but the king didn't budge.
Luigi recalled how Mario broke his arm as a child and, in a fit of pain and fear, kicked the doctor. However, this behavior could easily be explained when a young child was involved.
Lu: What did the guards do to make you treat them like that?
Bo: I don't accept guests who force me out of bed! They don't have even the slightest respect for me... They got what they deserved.
Bowser must have had a hard time understanding his position and the fact that, as a prisoner, he couldn't expect any mercy or royal treatment, not to mention the fact that the toads still, unwaveringly, hated Bowser. In any case, it was probably best to keep the whole incident quiet in front of the princess.
Lu: You're right, it wasn't fair. But you still didn't have to hurt them.
Luigi tried to placate him and get him to talk.
Bowser sighed and turned to Luigi. Now the plumber could get a much better look at him. His hair was spiked, and his eyes were still filled with rage. Despite this, he approached the plumber very slowly and cautiously, likely due to the injuries he had sustained. His tail truly needed attention. It was swollen, bruised, and streaked with blood. Luigi winced slightly at the sight, and Bowser's expression softened.

I've noticed that many people wonder why Mario saved Bowser Jr. at the end of the movie. Some say it's because he's simply a positive character, others believe he wanted to make up to Junior for almost killing his father. Personally, I believe Mario wasn't really after Junior at all, but rather... Bowser. This was Mario's way of repaying his debt to Bowser. Although Bowser ultimately betrayed them, he had earlier sacrificed himself for them. ~~
Junior is able to defend Bowser even if he doesn't need it.
Many people say Junior's character behaves inappropriately for his age. There's a lot to criticize about the movie, but Bowser Jr. is written very well. Junior truly acts like a little kid most of the time! ;) The scenes between Bowser and Junior are a real highlight of this film.
Is it bad that I prefer it for Mario to be mostly the one who gets the focus when it's him vs Bowser at the end? Don't get me wrong, I would never complain about Bowser having more friendship scenes with Luigi, but I feel like it was important for Mario's arc to slowly warm up to the idea of accepting Bowser as a friend to the point of him being the one to try and appeal to his good side and ultimately save Bowser Jr. As we've seen with Luigi, he's already become fast friends in the beginning. And ya know, Luigi had that whole interrogation scene with Bowser in the first one so we just really needed more Bowser and Mario here.
I’m not against what we got between Bowser and Mario, my problem is that once Bowser had his corruption arc we got literally nothing about how Luigi felt about it.
I don’t need more friendship scenes with Luigi, I need more scenes that focus on the emotional aftermath.
Mario has the benefit of having distrusted Bowser from the start and not befriending him until halfway through the movie, hence why he had no problem immediately jumping to the conclusion that Bowser had “played them” the moment he saw him standing with Junior.
Luigi was the one who believed in Bowser, actively vouched for Bowser, ran a weekly book club with Bowser… they had bonded! They parted with an affectionate fist-bump! Heck, besides Mario and Yoshi, Bowser was the only other person Luigi seemed comfortable being physically playful with.
So what now?? Does Luigi feel guilty about trying to talk Mario into trusting Bowser? Does he think Bowser had “played him” during the entirety of his rehabilitation? Does he understand that Bowser was mostly doing this for the sake of his kid? We don’t get so much as a regretful glance or a stray comment to suggest how Luigi feels despite being the central figure of Bowser’s initial change of heart!
It was a really good emotional setup that the writers seemingly forgot about by the end of the movie, and it sucks, because how do you go from this:

And not acknowledge a single emotion Luigi felt in between???
We can only hope that this omitted issue will be addressed and explained to some extent in the next movie, where there will simply be more time for it. However, I fear that Daisy's appearance will completely overshadow any friendly relationship that might have existed between Luigi and Bowser. Given the rapid pace and impreciseness of this movie's plot, the next one may not offer us anything more satisfying in this regard. 😅

Overall, I think the Super Mario Bros was better, but that doesn't change the fact that I had a phenomenal time at the cinema and can't wait to see it again and analyze every detail.
What I missed in the movie was... more in-depth dialogue between the characters, but I'll address that another time. In any case, I wholeheartedly recommend it to any fan who hasn't seen the movie yet! ♥️ ~~

I wonder how Mario would react if he saw Luigi like this. He'd probably say something like, "Lu, remember that no matter what happens, you always have us [Me and Peach]." But how can you comfort a disappointed heart and lost hope? Is there anything you can say... ?

Went to see the new Mario movie for my sister’s birthday last week and loved it! So I did a bit of sketching of my faves to celebrate (more is on the way!)
REAL big fan of all the Dad and son content in this film, 10/10
