So that line in Titan where Rimmer is looking at the gleaming chests of athletic males and finds himself “disturbingly distracted” is the most ‘blatant’ clue that Rimmer could be gay but hating himself for it that’s ever been - whether it’s in the books or the tv series. It’s almost making me wonder whether Rob and Doug played around with the idea of Rimmer being gay many years ago but couldn’t make it obvious for fear of losing some of the show’s audience, especially straight males who make up a large portion of the fanbase.

I know Rob and Doug have talked about Rimmer’s asexuality but when Rob last mentioned it during a covid lockdown commentary, he didn’t say Rimmer IS asexual but that ‘in his view’ Rimmer is asexual, almost like he’s letting the audience have their own interpretations - a clever choice of words?

when you are on a date, and someone has an interest you don't quite get, instead of saying lol lame, try saying hmm i don't quite get that, please explain that to me, and then listen as the other person talks about why that thing is something they are in to.

you might learn something which recontextualizes the matter, and you will definitely learn something more about your date, which is the entire point of dating.

you don't have to be a superfan by the end, but you will have shown you can be chill and take an interest in stuff, which is much more likely to result in a second date instead of being ditched in a coffee line.
