btw shoutout my goat Hymn to Demeter for being one of the most poignant explorations of grief and loss specifically familial grief and loss to ever exist and a very personal fuck you to everyone who has ever written Hades and Persephone as a love story without ever even reading the Hymn to Demeter. u are evil for that 🫶 there’s been a cultural renaissance of the Odyssey lately (thank u Jorge Rivera-Herrans and NOT that fuckass man with that fuckass movie) and I feel like we for the most part have moved back to interpreting Helen and her story in a correct true to text way because of that and my vote is that everyone gets really into Hymn to Demeter next so we can finally get the collective consciousness to acknowledge that she is a personification of the idea of losing a child to death and not whatever fucked up Romeo and Juliet (which people r ALSO misinterpreting but that’s not the point of this post) interpretation. anyway ily Hymn to Demeter one of my favorite pieces of Greek literature <3
