Fez's line about Jackie (the last line of dialogue in the above page) in the TD is softened from the one in the RFD, where he describes her in quite misogynistic and nasty terms.

Above, the stage directions for Randy and his male date are far more obviously affectionate. The network likely ordered that to be toned down (typical for the '90s).

In the RFD, Hyde says the line, "We are so cool to be okay with it!" which softens his later lines into using the ignorant teen language of the time rather than characterizing him as purely homophobic. The RFD gives Eric a different line that shows he's cool with the gay couple.

That being said, Hyde has a line earlier in both the TD and RFD where he acts like Kelso's hitting in him and tells Kelso he's into girls. The RFD's line is slightly different than the TD's version. The TD's has Hyde tell Kelso explicitly it's not the first time he's said to Kelso he's into girls. The RFD has Hyde tell Kelso he's into girls without any indication it's a reminder.

1. I hate Fez and Kelso's dynamic, platonic or otherwise. They're even more toxic than Jackie and Kelso, because they bring out each other's reckless sides (and creepy sides).

2. I think s8 can be canon, too (it's part of the OG show). Either post s7 or post s8 is post canon, to me. T9S is another universe entirely (you can't fit in Jay's existence anywhere, at all). Like post s4, if everyone was somehow aged up or something.

3. I think T9S is worse than s8, because you can't fix it. You can undo s8, but not T9S.

4. Jackie's style isn't perfect. I mean, who wears a shirt with their own face on it? Eww.

5. I find Eric's Star Wars obsession to be really, really annoying. Not just a little annoying. But then again, I don't like Star Wars, so yeah.

6. I think Jackie would retain some of her questionable social takes, even after spending years with Hyde. She wants her children to fit in, and she wants to fit in, too. Like a shining star amongst everyone else, simply.

7. Hyde has a vengeful side. It's not OOC. He's just in a serious relationship for the first time, and has a jealous streak.

8. Donna is not an ESTP. She doesn't thrive on impulses, like Kelso, Fez, and Laurie. She needs structure and stability in her life in order to thrive, so she's more of a XNTJ, in my opinion.

9. I like ED more than JH.

10. Kelso is incapable of anything more than convoluted master plans. If he was smarter, he'd be far more dangerous.

1. I love Eric but his sexist moments with Donna deeply anger me and doesn't feel resolved. I understand he's traditional because of his parents but it feels like we never get to see him grow out of it organically.

2. T7s being a sitcom and not intended to watch in one sitting, it makes it feel like Eric and Donna argue all the time which can be frustrating to watch.

3. Hyde's crush on Donna never being brought up again feels so weird like it never happened. I don't ship them at all but it would be interesting to see it addressed. Or at least learn about it. Honestly it could've been removed from season 1 imo and not make a difference.

4. Fez would be a much more compelling character if they went more into his queer coded/immigrant characteristics instead of being lonely.

5. I enjoy Kelso as comedic relief and he'd be a way better character if he wasn't a creep.

6. I know there's a lot of limitations for a sitcom but I wish we could've seen the rest of the characters have siblings.

7. I don't think Edna would abandon Hyde.

8. Season 1 is the best season.

9. I wish there was an extra character in the show to balance out Fez and Kelso's lack of character.

10. I wish minor character's were utilized, for example destroy and take back, Tina, Rhonda, etc.

11. I wish Mitch was never in the show.

12. I think Kitty was unfair towards Laurie even though Red was too passive.

13. I don't think Eric would be a teacher.

It's been a long time, with some new peeps, so here ya go. :)

Over the years, I been asked many times why Jackie trusts Hyde, particularly in "Kiss of Death" (2x20) when she goes to him for comfort over Donna and Eric. Nothing in the text (the show suggests) a reason why. He's not helpful to her in "Ski Trip" (1x13). Rather, he essentially tries to get rid of her so he can be alone with Donna.

Prissy (aka @that70sshowgoldencouple ) and I talked in the phone today (we've been friends for fifteen years) to compare my Table Draft of the T7S pilot to her earlier Revised First Draft of the pilot (hers was completed a month before mine). We had a lot of fun, and now onto our discovery.

In the TD, Hyde explains that he's taken Fez under his wing to teach him "[Americans' strange ways." This line isn't in the RFD. Regardless, Jackie learns Fez is a foreign exchange student and says in both drafts, "What did we trade for him?" (Exact wording is from the TD.) Below, you'll find what follows in the TD.

What Jackie's response, That is so like you," refers to is ambiguous. Does she mean Hyde's insult or the fact he's helping Fez and believes"no one should be without friends"?

The RFD removes this ambiguity. Below, you'll find the earlier version of what follows Jackie's question, "What did we trade [Fez] for?"

Both the RFD and TD of the pilot reveal that Hyde's compassionate heart and desire to help the vulnerable was an original part of his core characterization. On the show, these aspects of him become part and parcel of his core starting in "Prom Night" (1x19).

Further, the RFD and TD reveal that Jackie's been around Hyde long enough to recognize that helping people is part of his nature.

Despite that the show doesn't depict Hyde as such until "Prom Night," so it's not technically in the text, Hyde's initial characterization and Jackie's knowledge of it may well have left an imprint on the show's creators and original showrunners.

Jackie having witnessed Hyde's compassion toward others who need it would create an implicit trust in him when she needs help and support.
