Make sure that when posting a picture, put what you like as normal, you can go to the settings cog right above your post, go to Text Editor, and instead of rich text, use HTML. Now, usually Tumblr resizes images automatically into the 500 or 540 jpg file size, so, to correctly stretch this to the proper dimensions, change the image url from either two numbers to that lovely perfect little 1280 and voila, save and you picture should be in full display!
