Something goes wrong, and you realize you're not the same after all. And then you realize they never really understood. Once you recognize a small difference it grows exponentially, until they become something unrecognizable. You still see yourself in them, kinda. But it's like a funhouse mirror. Mocking you. You end up wishing you'd never met them at all.

My closest friends are all pretty different from me, and I think it's because when I meet someone who's Almost like me, it honestly hurts worse than if they hadn't been like me at all.

Conversely, if you understand TADC as a story to take every single aspect, moment, outcome, and detail totally literally rather than in tandem with the thematic signficance it communicates. Or were looking for a more lore-driven story. Or were hoping for a more rounded exploration of its world and characters, a hollistic dive into the premise it sets up rather than a story barreling towards a specific end goal/a very pointed thematic stance. You're gonna end up disappointed with what you got.

And this is not a moral judgement, I don't think any expectation is at all more correct than another. I actually think my last point is probably even the most fair stance to have. Especially if you don't engage with any secondary material and just look at the show itself, since it doesn't totally establish Jax as a core focus until later in its run. Some storylines do feel very sidelined.

This one hurt, her work had such a profound effect on my life, thoughts, and politics.

It has been known for a while that Steven Universe was low budget and the production of it was quite a mess. If you check out season 4 and season 5 you are going to see that a few people that had been working for a while in the show left it around that time.

From what i recall, in a podcast Ian Jones Quartey (Rebecca Sugar husband and some point producer of SU) talked about how the team was encouraged to put all their energy into the work and make it personal, which lead to work burnout. The storyboarders had to draw the key frames from the animation because again, for how low budget the show was.

Zuke made some posts about how Sugar and others could have done a better job at asking for better working conditions and leading to such burnout in the production. There was also something about crossing certain boundaries, like treating the coworkers too much of a friends instead of coworkers.

now i see people without IDD or BID claiming because i wasn't diagnosed and use big words sometimes that i couldn't possibly have BID. also recently being diagnosed and medically recognized with health conditions that... literally cause IDD. i'm so tired. like my intellectual disability is part of the reason i can't hold a job. the opinions of chucklefucks on the internet that disregard abuse and neglect victims with IDD/BID mean absolutely nothing to me.

I find solace in kids shows and I honestly feel criticizing and picking on people for liking them is rooted in ableism. Saying “go watch Bluey” (as an insult) to people who aren’t emotionally mature always felt very wrong to me.

Same with saying someone has “low media literacy” and criticizing them for that. Not everyone can understand or comprehend complex narratives. Why is it treated like a crime to not understand fiction and, god forbid, to have bad takes on it?

This site has a huge problem with this and I will not be quiet about it.
