Iāll count this as an a!countdown post. I think it would be cool if at some point the reboot could bring back Snowball. Brain has a lot of unresolved and complicated feelings about him I think we can get further explore.Ā
As far a Snowball is concerned, I think heās exactly as advertised. Heās mean, heās cruel, heās vindictive, heās willing to do all the immoral things Brain is not in order to take over the world. And most importantly, he truly does not have an iota of affection left for Brain. Unfortunately for Brain, he canāt say the same. Because no matter how much he hates the person Snowball has become, he always has in the back of his mind the person he used to be when they were young. His one friend at the time, a hamster he could always make smile. I thought it was interesting when Snowball went on his paranoid tangent in Welcome to the Jungle Brain realizes this has to be coming from a place of genuine mental illness and looksā¦disturbed?Ā
His body language where he crosses his arms and leans back is kind of unusual for him. Heās really alarmed that there are problems with Snowball that are out of his control, and probably out of Snowballās control as well. He didnāt really ask to be a walking cesspool anymore than Brain asked to beā¦how he is, with his own issues. The megalomania and all that lol. I think about here he has to acknowledge for a second heās probably not going to get what heās hoping for deep down. Even when theyāre literally at each others throats, Brain is always leaving the door open just a little for Snowball to change his mind and come back. Of course, that never happens.
Heād rather drown than let Brain help him, let alone rekindle their friendship. If anything, Snowball thinks heās pathetic for it and is often exploiting the fact that Brain will always be a little soft for him. Heās ruthless to the core, always finding things he knows will hurt, and heās usually very good at it. Like in Snowball when he tries to (and eventually succeeds) in manipulating Pinky away from him, and we get lines like:
āYou think Pinky is an asset?ā
āAnything I can take from you is an asset.ā
And I think thereās a lot to unpack here, but most importantly, we see how toxic his feelings towards Brain are. And thatās it. Thatās all he feels towards him. And itās tragic that probably, even knowing that, Brain wonāt give up on him. Whatever they had as kids is really worth fighting for, and I guess that makes sense. Like, if Pinky were to suddenly flip and become a whole other, evil, person and start shit with Brainā¦could Brain ever really give up on him? No, probably never. Thatās what we like about him after all, he never gives up. It would seem that also applies to the very very few people he cares about as well. :ā)
