Anyways here’s a memorial painting of my longest played character - Durzol the warlock. He died fighting god in the final session. His cat’s name is Missy (short for Mistress of Darkness). She lived.

Durzol has successfully opened his own flower shop, started a pyramid scheme, and framed his ex for murder. He has a chipped fang because he tried to eat a rock when he was drunk. RIP king.

At some point "fanfic can be as good as professional writing" became "fanfic should be as good as professional writing" and that's caused major damage to fandom spaces.

Yes!! Thank you for saying it, and it’s starting to be obvious on ao3 for example: people had always felt entitled to criticizing a work yet in the past year it has escalated to being outright rude and bashing authors for being in the process of practicing their writing as they create fics. Some people aren’t aware the amount of time it takes to have an idea, built the storyline until you’re satisfied, write it (and have the time to finish it!), and have the guts to publish it for free to the rest of the fandom.

Your first fic doesn’t need to be a Pulitzer, most authors starts from scratch and it takes years to have a legible writing style and that’s fine! That’s normal, it’s part of the process and finding identity and commodity in what you do.

My personal opinion is that tiktok has a major influence on why fandom etiquete is starting to be forgotten, and it feels like fanfics are now viewed as a new source of hyper-consumption instead of a little safe space to truly enjoy about the media you like and practice kindness.
