Just a reminder: I am Catholic.
That means I believe that:
1. Abortion is murder and always wrong.
A procedure meant to save the life of the mother with the inherent risk of but without the explicit intention of killing the child is not an abortion.
Extracting the already-dead remains of an ectopic pregnancy is not murder.
Killing a woman’s child even if conceived in vile, unconscionable circumstances is not justice against those circumstances.
2. There are only 2 sexes and you can’t change which one you are.
Legitimately feeling you are in the wrong body and the only solution being to mutilate yourself is a sign of mental illness.
Feeling you are more masculine/feminine is simply part of the uniqueness of being you and not something that means you’re another sex.
Gender is a social construct with no meaning because the gender roles are not the same across all societies and times whereas sex is.
Being intersex is not being a third gender and not a sign that there are more than 2 sexes.
3. Being attracted to the same sex is disordered to the Natural Law.
Something being disordered does not mean that you as a person are disordered
The disordered attraction is no one’s fault and you are responsible for how you act on your attraction, not for having it in the first place
Acting on this attraction to satisfy sexual urges is a sin and, quite frankly, not what the human body was designed for anyway
4. Marriage is a sacred covenant between a man and a woman.
Sex outside of marriage is always wrong regardless of consent, the sex of either partner, or the sexual activity performed
A child born outside of wedlock is still a blessing and their existence is not wrong
Humans do not have a fundamental right to sexual pleasure
5. Humans have free will
People can choose to be saints or sinners
All people have the capacity for the greatest acts of love and the most vile evils we can imagine
It’s is by the grace of God that we are not all evil
Our natural inclination is to good but due to our broken nature we are easily susceptible and greatly enjoy evil
Forcing people to do the right thing or having the government do it is not charity or justice
Humans are responsible for their actions and reactions, and explanations for those actions do not justify them
6. The Blessed Virgin Mary is the Mother of God and our Blessed Mother.
Praying to Mary is the same as asking your living friends to pray for you
Mary has no authority over God and is the perfect servant to His Divine Will
Jesus gave us Mary as our mother while on the cross
7. Salvation can only be found from within the Church as established by God.
Everyone who accepts Jesus before their death and is willing to atone for their sins will be welcomed into Heaven
Those who do not know Jesus through no fault of their own and have no capacity to know Him on earth are capable of going to Heaven by the grace of God through the methods detailed in the Catechism of the Catholic Church
The Catholic Church does not know the entirety of Truth, only what has been revealed to her by God Himself
8. Purgatory is real
We do not know the specifics of Purgatory, only that it purifies us so that we may enjoy the beatific vision
Purgatory may last for an actual instant but seem to last for an eternity - we can’t properly conceptualize it because we are not there (and hopefully won’t have to be)
Purgatory is a choice, just like Hell
Purgatory is avoidable
9. Hell is real
Our actions take us down the path towards Heaven or towards Hell
God will not deny His Divine Mercy to anyone who asks for it, thus no one is destined for Hell
Once you have rejected God at the point of death, you can never take it back
Hell is eternal torment of our own choosing
Hell can be less painful than Heaven if you are too proud to admit your sins and ask for God’s mercy, but that does not mean Hell isn’t still eternal torment
10. Every human should be treated with dignity and respect
Disagreeing with someone is not disrespect
Educating someone is not disrespect
Pointing out someone’s sins is not disrespect
It is not always your job to point out someone’s sins
Someone disrespecting you does not give you permission to disrespect them
