bullion (gold bars) and bouillon (dehydrated soup) pisses me off so much. they aren't false friends, they both come from the same root. they arent homographs, that'd be too easy. and they arent even in meaningfully different forms! they are, effectively, the exact same word imported twice, in exactly the same way, but you're supposed to be able to tell the difference. what if grey and gray were both commonly used words but grey was the color and gray was like. a style of drinking cup. fuck you.
also i always wanna swap them in my head i guess because like. more vowels = more fancy. the humble soup cube doesnt need all that.
#hey you take that back about my best friend the glorious soup cube (via @jango-tango)
you misunderstand me. the soup cube is not inferior, rather it is your comrade. a true blue collar worker. literal salt of the earth. the soup cube does not need to distract you with flashy and ostentatious 3-vowel syllables, soup cube is honest and straightforward.
Oh, to be a tiny mermaid to escape the heat

what are people's favorite niche ice cream flavors. mine are superman and blue moon (specifically from the midwest like michigan/indiana/wisconsin), van leeuwen's royal wedding cake, and jeni's wildberry lavender

It’s game night star trek style! Who’s invite do you accept?
3d chess with Spock & Kirk
Drinking game with Scottie & Bones
Poker with Riker & the tng Bridge crew
Kal-toh with Tuvok
Dom jot with Jake & Nog
Tongo with Quark & Jadzia
Kadis-kot with Seven & Naomi
Darts with Miles & Julian
Litterally anything becomes hyper competitive with Janeway
Bat'leths & BiHnuchs with the lower deckers
Calica with the starfleet academy kids
Other in tags / nuance / i want to press a button
Do they play any games in prodigy? I couldn’t think of any off the top of my head. Also I never realized how much DS9 is the games star trek. They took over the poll and I still left several off! Voyager too - pool, kal toh, kadis kot, is janeway throwing horse shoes with her holodeck boyfriend?
Tumblrites, the hour has come for us to practice one of our most sacred rituals.

i think the near-extinction of people making fun, deep and/or unique interactive text-based browser games, projects and stories is catastrophic to the internet. i'm talking pre-itch.io era, nothing against it.
there are a lot of fun ones listed here and here but for the most part, they were made years ago and are now a dying breed. i get why. there's no money in it. factoring in the cost of web hosting and servers, it probably costs money. it's just sad that it's a dying art form.
anyway, here's some of my favorite browser-based interactive projects and games, if you're into that kind of thing. 90% of them are on the lists that i linked above.
A Better World - create an alternate history timeline
Alter Ego - abandonware birth-to-death life simulator game
Seedship - text-based game about colonizing a new planet
Sandboxels or ThisIsSand - free-falling sand physics games
Little Alchemy 2 - combine various elements to make new ones
Infinite Craft - kind of the same as Little Alchemy
ZenGM - simulate sports
Tamajoji - browser-based tamagotchi
IFDB - interactive fiction database (text adventure games)
Written Realms - more text adventure games with a user interface
The Cafe & Diner - mystery game
The New Campaign Trail - US presidential campaign game
Money Simulator - simulate financial decisions
Genesis - text-based adventure/fantasy game
Level 13 - text-based science fiction adventure game
Miniconomy - player driven economy game
Checkbox Olympics - games involving clicking checkboxes
BrantSteele.net - game show and Hunger Games simulators
Murder Games - fight to the death simulator by Orteil
Cookie Clicker - different but felt weird not including it. by Orteil.
if you're ever thinking about making a niche project that only a select number of individuals will be nerdy enough to enjoy, keep in mind i've been playing some of these games off and on for 20~ years (Alter Ego, for example). quite literally a lifetime of replayability.
since this post blew up, i've been wanting to do an addition with all of the recommendations from the comments and tags. but there's a lot of them. some people might be crazy enough to sit down and seriously put them all in one post with descriptions. those people are honestly sick in the head.
anyway, here's all of the recommendations from the reblogs. not all of them are text-based, but it's a great mixture of styles. also don't forget the links in the second paragraph of the OP which will take you to FMHY where there are a bunch more games listed.

For a Horse and Horseman resumes posting with the launch of Volume 3 next week, Monday Feb 9. For free, you can get caught up on my gay novel about horse princes in love
Spin the wheel twice (feel free to re-spin if you don't recognize a character)
These two Star Trek characters are now stuck in a time loop, are the only two people aware of it, and need to work together to get out of it. How are they doing?
nobody has ever broken out of a loop faster before
good! they work together pretty well
eh. it's ok-ish
could go either way
it's not going well...
they're never making it out of there

Congratulations! You have been Isekai’d to the Pokemon World and you are now a Pokemon Trainer! Spin here! to find out your new Trainer Class!
How do you feel about your result?
HELL YEAH THIS IS SO COOL AND SO PERFECT FOR ME
I’m not sure if it really fits me…. But it is REALLY GREAT
This is awesome!
It’s pretty cool!!
It’s nice, I guess
I feel totally indifferent about it
This has a lot of positives and a lot of negatives, not sure how I feel…
…Eh…
Could be worse, I guess?
This is perfect for me (derogatory)
This SUCKS, but… at least it’s better than NOT being a Pokemon Trainer, right?
THIS IS TERRIBLE THIS IS ACTUALLY WORSE THAN NOT BEING A POKEMON TRAINER
Now that's just rude.
