I recently got back into cosplay after taking a break for 3 years. I'm finding my excitement is waining. I picked up a copy of cosplay culture magazine and was really disappointed in the lack of variety in cosplayers. Do you ever feel this way too?
Honestly, I am very fortunate that I am able to go to conventions pretty regularly. Any time that I start to feel upset about the lack cosplayers of my body type, I am able to go to conventions and see that there are so many amazing cosplayers of all shapes and sizes! It’s insane that they aren’t represented in our small amount of media that cosplay gets, but it honestly doesn’t mean that amazing cosplayers don’t exsist. It just means not every outlet appreciates us, and that’s their loss. There are still sites and blogs like ours and @cosplayinamerica (which also has a book series where people that look like us are featured predominantly) and @cosplayingwhileblack and many others that are here to lift us up. I hope that you push forward with your cosplay, and draw inspiration from resources other than one small subset. You are awesome and I'm sure you will look amazing in your costume(s)!
Zephyr (Faith Herbert) is a psiot with the power of flight. She is a member of Peter Stanchek’s Renegades and often acts as the moral compass of the team.
She’s so cute and positive and she’s such a sweetheart
Oh my god????
My chest just got so tight and I think I’m going to cry she looks like me
Hi there! For your Kiki's Delivery Service cosplay, did you make your dress or did you buy it. I'm also a plus size cosplayer and have been looking for a dress to mimic Kiki's for a while.
Hi, I'm sorry, but this blog is a group for uplifting cosplayers, so we share a lot of different cosplay photos, so 99.9% of the time the cosplayers are not the people running the blog. If you go into our Kiki's delivery service tag on our blog and go to the blog of the person we shared from, they would be able to tell you more about that.
Splatoon Splattershot Pro Cosplay Tutorial
Okay so, @ pkmnbreedertianna asked me to do a tutorial on how I made my Splattershot Pro. I want to preface this by pointing out that I am brand spanking new to cosplay. This was the first prop I built so I was definitely learning as I went. I also ran out of time, took a bunch of shortcuts and left parts off of the prop. As it stands now I still view it as a WIP. I also took progress photos for myself never intending to make a tutorial out of ii so the photos aren’t especially instructional.
Point being? This is about to be the worst tutorial ever. But if it helps anyone it’s worth typing out.
So for anyone not overly familiar with Splatoon, here’s the Splattershot Pro I was making (but filled with purple ink of course):
And here’s what I ended up with:
Cut for length, click to see how I made it;

This weekend I was told a story which, although I’m kind of ashamed to admit it, because holy shit is it ever obvious, is kind of blowing my mind.
A friend of a friend won a free consultation with Clinton Kelly of What Not To Wear, and she was very excited, because she has a plus-size body, and wanted some tips on how to make the most of her wardrobe in a fashion culture which deliberately puts her body at a disadvantage.
Her first question for him was this: how do celebrities make a plain white t-shirt and a pair of weekend jeans look chic? She always assumed it was because so many celebrities have, by nature or by design, very slender frames, and because they can afford very expensive clothing. But when she watched What Not To Wear, she noticed that women of all sizes ended up in cute clothes that really fit their bodies and looked great. She had tried to apply some guidelines from the show into her own wardrobe, but with only mixed success. So - what gives?
His answer was that everything you will ever see on a celebrity’s body, including their outfits when they’re out and about and they just get caught by a paparazzo, has been tailored, and the same goes for everything on What Not To Wear. Jeans, blazers, dresses - everything right down to plain t-shirts and camisoles. He pointed out that historically, up until the last few generations, the vast majority of people either made their own clothing or had their clothing made by tailors and seamstresses. You had your clothing made to accommodate the measurements of your individual body, and then you moved the fuck on. Nothing on the show or in People magazine is off the rack and unaltered. He said that what they do is ignore the actual size numbers on the tags, find something that fits an individual’s widest place, and then have it completely altered to fit. That’s how celebrities have jeans that magically fit them all over, and the rest of us chumps can’t ever find a pair that doesn’t gape here or ride up or slouch down or have about four yards of extra fabric here and there.
I knew that having dresses and blazers altered was probably something they were doing, but to me, having alterations done generally means having my jeans hemmed and then simply living with the fact that I will always be adjusting my clothing while I’m wearing it because I have curves from here to ya-ya, some things don’t fit right, and the world is just unfair that way. I didn’t think that having everything tailored was something that people did.
It’s so obvious, I can’t believe I didn’t know this. But no one ever told me. I was told about bikini season and dieting and targeting your “problem areas” and avoiding horizontal stripes. No one told me that Jennifer Aniston is out there wearing a bigger size of Ralph Lauren t-shirt and having it altered to fit her.
I sat there after I was told this story, and I really thought about how hard I have worked not to care about the number or the letter on the tag of my clothes, how hard I have tried to just love my body the way it is, and where I’ve succeeded and failed. I thought about all the times I’ve stood in a fitting room and stared up at the lights and bit my lip so hard it bled, just to keep myself from crying about how nothing fits the way it’s supposed to. No one told me that it wasn’t supposed to. I guess I just didn’t know. I was too busy thinking that I was the one that didn’t fit.
I thought about that, and about all the other girls and women out there whose proportions are “wrong,” who can’t find a good pair of work trousers, who can’t fill a sweater, who feel excluded and freakish and sad and frustrated because they have to go up a size, when really the size doesn’t mean anything and it never, ever did, and this is just another bullshit thing thrown in your path to make you feel shitty about yourself.
I thought about all of that, and then I thought that in elementary school, there should be a class for girls where they sit you down and tell you this stuff before you waste years of your life feeling like someone put you together wrong.
So, I have to take that and sit with it for a while. But in the meantime, I thought perhaps I should post this, because maybe my friend, her friend, and I are the only clueless people who did not realise this, but maybe we’re not. Maybe some of you have tried to embrace the arbitrary size you are, but still couldn’t find a cute pair of jeans, and didn’t know why.
Bringing this back around because of that Teen Wolf article.
To all the lovely ladies and gents who follow my blog, when you despair over your shape while shopping remember, It’s not you.
This post is one of those things that I will reblog every time it appears on my dash. This is so important, and no one ever tells you about it.

Cosfluff Review: Gettin’ Wiggy With It.
Fluffy fans are always asking us our favorite wigs, costume shops, and other such geekery...So, we’ve decided to do a review every now and then to tell you what we think of various geek products! Kicking off we’ll do be doing an Arda Wig Review with Panda! This has been one of our favorite wigs shops, and we usually suggest them when asked for our opinion. Since they had a BIG Black Friday Sale we decided to buy some wigs. We bought two wigs and we will be reviewing each one on it’s own. Today we will be reviewing: The Priscilla in Pure White
This is a short wig from their Classic Line, and it is the shortest I’ve ever gotten from them. Due to my rather long and fairly thick hair I was rather nervous about getting something so short...Overall, I was pretty pleased with the outcome!
Website: ★ ★ ★ ★
Arda’s site is incredibly clean and professional looking. The site is easy to navigate and well organized. My frustration came from the fact that while you can click on any available color...you can’t always immediately see it in the style that you’re looking at. It came frustrating have to hunt down images of the wig in certain colors. Price: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
Usually, The Priscilla is $30.00 which is the standard price I pay for most good, short wigs. With their sale I got it for 20% off which made it a great deal. This is a wig I would pay full price on instead of waiting around for another sale.
Shipping: (Full Rating Omitted)
Due to buying this during a Black Friday sale, we can’t accurately rate the shipping. When you buy during large sales you should expect to wait a fair amount of time; however, I ordered on November 24, the Wig shipped out on December 2,and it would have arrived on December 5. (USPS had some issues.) This was an incredible turn around time considering the sale combined with the Holiday!
It shipped in a simple box along with our second wig. Inside are a few paper bundles to help it keep shape. I appreciated having the wigs shipped in box since Radiance and I live in an apartment where the Postman has a bad habit of stuffing anything that will fit into our tiny mailbox. This prevented the wigs from being damaged during shipment or delivery.
Customer Service: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
Though we didn’t have to directly deal with them, Arda had excellent customer service. They immediately posted on both their facebook page and website that orders were going to take 12-15 business days to ship out. I appreciated the warning despite not needing it.
The Wig: ★ ★ ★ ★
The Priscilla is a very short, very cute style.Still, there are some downsides to this wig. We’re gonna try to break everything down.
+/- Out of the Bag: It had some fly-aways, but they were pretty easy to brush down. What doesn’t make this completely + was the fact that when I ran my fingers through it a small clump of short hair come out from the neckline. Wherever it came from is unnoticeable however. As I continued my combing there were no clumps that came out.
+ Texture: I find this wig to be soft but not too much so. Everything stays in place once you brush it down, and it has a pretty natural sway. It feels pretty realistic.
+/- Thickness: The front and sides of the Priscilla are nice and thick. That’s pretty typical with Arda. It gives it a nice shape. With the amount of hair on the sides, I’m pretty sure this would be great for pigtail clips or clipped-in ears/horns.
The back feels a little lacking particularly near the neck. Also, you could kind of see the tan wig cap that I was wearing underneath. With a bit of finger combing I was about to hide it decently. It was just a little frustrating to have such a thick front but a flat back.
Size: For me, this wig feels a little small. If you have a larger head or have a lot of thick hair (like myself) it may take some finagling to get it just right.
+ Shine: The Priscilla in Pure White has just the right amount of shine. It’s pretty realistic and close to what my hair looks like under bathroom lights (like in the picture above) or with flash.
Overall Rating:
Website: ★ ★ ★ ★ Price: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Shipping: (Omitted) Customer Service: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Wig: ★ ★ ★ ★
Overall, I recommend this wig. It’s a good price for a good quality, short wig. If you’re looking at it just keep in mind the amount of hair you’re going to be hiding under it. I suggest going with a white wig cap for it and maybe having a buddy go over the back of it for you.
My squirrel girl cosplay from Tokyo in Tulsa!!
AAAH! Thank you for sharing it with us!! It looks awesome!
So, I get asked a lot how I put all of my hair underneath a wig. So here’s a small picture tutorial on how I do this.
The first photo is me with my long hair down.
The second photo is me splitting my hair into two sections and braiding it. I use small rubber bands to tie it up.
After I do that, I then wrap the braids around my head, sticking Bobby pins in the braid where it feels like it should be secured. I do the same thing with the other braid too. After that, I put my wig cap on and then pin that to my head.
When I pin it to my head, I make little X shapes with the pins and place the wavy side down. I also put them at the front, back and sides of the wig.
Finally, I put my wig on. I pin the wig to my head by finding the little X shapes I made and placing a Bobby pin | up and down like the simbol.
If the wig is short, I pin any loose parts of the wig down in X shapes where needed.
I hope this helps!!
@sasshulk Could you use magic to share this with Cosfluff?
