“I was in HELL looking at heaven…”
i love when characters lie to themselves in the complete privacy of their own minds
Hey. Minors following me. Internet safety is key!! NEVER include these in your bio/byf:
Medical diagnoses - this is nobody's business but yours. You don't owe anyone an explanation for why you are the way that you are
Trauma - same reason as above
Triggers - people can use these against you! Don't give people tools to hurt you. No one has to know what tags you block. Just block tags to stay safe!
Age - age is okay for adults to include but is iffy when you're a teen. Predators want this information, don't give people more than they need. Just state that you're a minor, that's all that anyone needs to know.
In general: stay safe. If you're not comfortable with every stranger out there having access to this information, you shouldn't post it on the internet.
Play devil's advocate and ask yourself about what would happen if someone searched for your information with intent to hurt you. You do NOT owe anyone an explanation!
adding on to this post, i agree w all of OPs points, but i also highly advise against super young teens posting their face on the internet, its so easy to take peoples selfies + name and find stuff out like your school and then figure out the rough area in which you live. same with your phone number. be super careful about what you put out there. once you post it, it really is here forever.
OP already said this so I’m just reiterating to emphasize:
The golden rule of information sharing on the internet is: What would happen if someone saw this who wanted to hurt me?
If the answer is that it would make it easier to harass you, identify you, contact you, or god forbid find you, don’t put it online. You can’t fully control who does and does not see that information--not even with privacy settings.
THIS IS SO IMPORTANT
never hit reblog so fast
Don't post pictures that include the exterior of your house or the street out front - there are tools out there that can be used to compare those photos to Google Maps to find out where you live. If you post photos of the interior of your living space, make sure windows showing the outside are not clearly visible.
Do not post photos that include any kind of background clutter, like a messy desk full of papers or a bathroom mirror selfie with prescription pill bottles visible - crop or edit that stuff out, and do it on a separate editing application from the site you upload to (there have been security issues on some sites where uncropped photos have been accessible). These items can contain personal info like your name and address. Carefully review any photos you post for this kind of identifying info. Other possible identifiers include mail and shipping labels on packaging, local newspapers or magazines, memos and other materials from work or school, open browser tabs on screenshots, etc.
Avoid posting your email or private messaging handles publicly. Scammers can use these to send you phishing links or malware. Only share that info with people you trust. Review all messages you receive carefully to make sure the sender is who you think it is, and don't click any link unless you know that the URL leads somewhere trustworthy. Make sure to hover over links before clicking to make sure the address matches where the link says it goes. Don't download anything from anyone unless you are POSITIVE they are trustworthy (i.e. you are the one who contacted them first, you know them in real life, you have been friends for a long time, etc).
Give as few details as possible about your personal life and family. Don't share your full name, and don't even share the first names of your family and friends. Don't mention where you go to college, even if it's a large university. Don't say where you work, even if it's a national chain. Obscure these details by being vague - just say "my friend" instead of using someone's name, or use a fake name.
Use extreme caution if you use any kind of payment app like PayPal etc, whether it's for commissions or just ebegging, and make sure to read up on common scams. Don't accept unsolicited payments, understand what types of buyer and seller protection features your platform offers, etc. Especially watch out for people attempting to overpay you by a huge amount - one of the most common scams is for someone to "accidentally" overpay you by adding a couple of zeros, ask for you to pay them back the difference, and then issue a chargeback on the original sum. Decline overpayments unless the payee confirms it was intentional. Don't give refunds as a separate transaction unless the money has already 100% cleared into your bank account - tell them to use the platform's refund process if it's available, or inform them that refunds will take a few days as you wait for the initial funds to clear. If they need it faster than that, they're SOL and should have thought of that before they paid you.
i hate when a coworker brings up harry potter because you just have to start beating them and keep beating them and beating them and attacking them and mauling them and it's really tiring to do twice a day
