You act like a disability authority and dish out life advice like a pro- you're a kid, and you have fibro. Not that it's not valid, but there are lots of people who have more experience with disability and medical stuff. I'm not articulating it well, but this blog just hurts, as somebody who is more severely disabled, seeing a bunch of teens using canes and whining about their parents. I wish I had those problems, you know? I just encourage you to be more aware of your privilege
Yes Iām a teenager. Yes Iām not āseverely disabledā and yeah, I use forearm crutches instead of a wheelchair or other mobility aids.
But if you think Iām a ādisability authorityā or ādishing out advice like proā, itās not what Iām trying to do. Often times I get questions I canāt answer. Thatās why I ask my followers, people who actually experience the problems in the questions, for their input.
I know damn well Iām not the most disabled person ever and I thank whatever may be out there every single day. I can walk, sure with severe amounts of pain, but I can. I know people who canāt. I know people who may never get treatment. I know people who may be living on the street because of being unable to pay rent because of severe medical bills. I know Iāve got it much better than many other people.
But Iām trying. And Iām sorry if it comes out as whining but as you said, Iām a kid. To me, this is the worst thing Iāve had to deal with. Iāve been suicidal, Iāve had an eating disorder, I have generalized anxiety and a panic disorder. I have fibromyalgia. And Iām a goddamn kid.
When my parents are unsupportive, I canāt do anything else. Iām a kid. All medical forms need my parentās consent. When I cry my eyes out because I canāt walk without feeling like Iām being set on fire, I canāt do anything about it except push through and use my canes because my parents wonāt let me do anything else.
I too wish you had my problems. I wish so many people didnāt have to deal with all the bullshit that comes with a disability, especially if itās more severe than what I have.
Often times, I only get asks about canes. Itās what many people ask me about. Thatās something I can give advice on.
I have privilege. I get it. But Iām trying. I want to learn and if thereās more information you want to give me, please, inform me.
Iām sorry for this rant, I just need you to understand that I never want it to seem like Iām an āauthorityā. I will never know everyone elseās experience and I try my best to educate myself on them. Iāll mess up. I know that. But Iām trying. And thatās what I want to convey with this.
Sure Iām just a teen with fibromyalgia. But I want people who have it too or have it worse have a place to vent and be understood. Thatās all I want.
