"Josephine is a very pretty name. Is it Orlesian? Regardless, I am Maurevar Carver."

"Well, it… is my cave. My name is on the wall outside. But you’re… You look like a Templar. I don’t deal well with Templars.”

"Then fear not. I've not been part of the Order for well on near a decade now. Given your fear of templars, I would assume you're an apostate. You should perhaps rethink this strategy of hiding in caves. Speaking from experience, a templar worth his salt would know to look for run away mages in one."

Carver felt bad that he couldn’t remember much talk about his father’s friends. Even from what he could remember, he couldn’t recall any of their names. “It’s good to meet one of his old friends, Ser. “ 

"Please, call me Maurevar." It did not feel right to him to bear that honorific any longer when he was no longer part of the Order, but this was not to time to divulge that piece of information. "And it is good to finally meet one of Malcolm's sons. I was heartbroken when I heard of his death, but your father was a good man."

"Come now, I had Leandra promise me that she'd keep you in line. If I'd known she'd go so soft on you I might have dropped by once in a while."

"Oh. If you’re looking for the true troublemaker, you should look for my brother. But, yes, I’m Carver Hawke." He nodded in greeting. "It’s nice to meet someone who knew my father." 

"Ah, I see. Carver." A corner of his mouth twitched as he regarded the young boy. Not quite a man yet in his eyes, far from being one, yet so eager to step into adulthood. The youthful energy was recognizable as well. "We were good friends, your father and I. Malcolm was... quite the character."

"And you look like you're one foot in the grave already, Malcolm. What have you been doing to yourself?"
