This is an expression used as a call to surrender in the face of inevitable defeat. It is also popularly known in the Star Trek series as a message from the Borg to assimilate with their species. However, I use the term here to describe mental, emotional, and spiritual surrender to the universe. This surrender is a powerful way of exercising “resistance.” It is a way of opposing that which is controlling and constraining.

To resist then is to let go, be in the moment, and stay in the moment. It involves being fully present and aware that the moment will pass. Every moment passes. There is no moment that does not pass. We are continuously moving through the eternal flow of time and space.

As long as we remain present and let go, the perceived obstacles melt away. This is because everything is fluid. When we focus on an obstacle and become attached to the obstacle, it does not appear to move. However, when we let go and do not become attached to the obstacle, it eventually dissolves.

Obstacles are illusions. They are put in our way to distract us. And distractions impede our progress. Breathe and Let go. Resistance is futile.

The other day, I was driving down the road when I saw a car in front of me with a big sticker on the back emblazoned with the bold letters “BLISS.” Hmm…I began to wonder…where is this going? Should I follow this bliss?

Yes, my curiosity got the better of me and I did follow this bliss. At first it was fun. But the car just kept going and going. And I kept looking at the clock. How long is it going to take? Should I stop and turn around?

Although I was a little bored and anxious to get somewhere, I continued on. Well, it is a good thing I did, because I was happily surprised. I discovered something I would not have otherwise discovered if I had given up and turned around. And my life is better because of it.

It is easy to solve an easy problem. A few steps, some minor adjustments, and the issue is worked out.

But the difficult problems require more thought, time, and even money. A difficult problem took years to come about. It cannot be solved instantly.

You have to get outside your comfort zone, roll up your sleeves, and work a little harder. You have to keep working. And there is no apparent deadline.

Creative work is a business like any other business. However, many artists lack the skills necessary to gain recognition and make sales. They struggle with the various details of marketing and promotion and resign themselves to being starving artists.

To be successful, you have to publicize yourself and your work. To make a name for yourself, you have to know and use the right strategies. Just as you plan your creative piece, you have to plan your marketing tactics. Unless you make the effort to reach the right audience and buyers, good fortune will evade you.

Van Gogh was an amazing artist, but he sold only one painting in his entire career. Do not let this happen to you. Today, there are hundreds of realistic opportunities out there that you can access and use. To develop your artistic career, you need to know the different steps involved and how to implement them. And you need to know the pitfalls to avoid as well.

The necessary steps include creating and executing an effective plan, researching the art industry, defining your target audience, determining a pricing strategy, knowing where and how to advertise, creating effective marketing tools, producing powerful Internet content, connecting with opportunities for growth, increasing your visibility, and making sales.

By following the right goals and objectives, you can attain recognition and sell your work.

When you think about it, you have lots of thoughts and ideas every day. Some are unrealistic. Some are quite practical. You also make decisions about whether or not you will pursue any of your ideas.

A major part of planning and implementing objectives involves regularly weighing their viability. Do they make sense? Are they producing the desired outcome?

Know what to grow. Know what to change. Not a complicated process. Just a concentrated process.

Focus your thoughts. Focus on the most useful ideas. Do this in all things and you will achieve results.

Your goals and aspirations are an important part of who you are and what does or does not happen in your life. To accomplish a dream, you have to work at it. And this involves a step by step process that is fulfilled on a regular, daily basis.

Each task that you devote to making your dream come true brings you that much closer to where you want to be. Steady progress is made in continued efforts that accumulate.

Every time you are distracted and turn your attention away from your goals, you delay your journey. You are like Odysseus trying to find his way home after the Trojan war. Just as he was held captive by Calypso, on her island of enchantment, you detain yourself from reaching your intended destination.

Achievement and success are fulfilled by staying true to your goals and aspirations. Only you can create and realize your own dream.
