Well I think it was brave
for those unaware today india experienced one of its biggest protests in half a decade. there were protests all over the nation for various causes but the major one was in delhi. all we asked for was the resignation of the education minister because he's failed the students of this nation time & time again. but we were met with brutality, the police had barricaded the main site of protest (jantar mantar). metro stations were shutdown, the public was restrained from reaching the protest site and all the adjoining areas had signal jammers to make sure the crowd had no access to constant updates. they had us blocked from all the sides. they were lathi (baton) charging students from one side & releasing tear gas from the other. you couldn't walk 100 m on streets without having a tear gas shell thrown at you. there were many students, women & kids bleeding β some from their head. some couldn't walk anymore. the police had removed their nameplates & acted with full impunity to resort to unprecedented levels of violence. they were pelting stones at us, beating up people for no reason, forcefully detaining them and attacking us constantly with tear gas & rubber bullets. they wouldn't let you exit either. the crowd was peaceful & looking out for each other yet they were met with violence. i made a friend who was all alone & she asked to join me & my friend because a policeman wouldn't leave her alone. he constantly prodded her for personal info, invited her back to the jeep saying they have food there, wouldn't stop following her around. you couldn't call or ask anyone for help, we were left to fend for ourselves & be on a constant lookout if you did not want to be beaten up to death by police. all for what? asking a resignation? shame on this country.
Youth-led movement calls on education minister to quit in one of Indiaβs largest anti-government rallies in years
More than 10,000 protesters braved tear gas and baton charges in their largest challenge yet to PM Modi's government.
People are unfazed if you hate women but if you dislike dogs they assume you're a bad person
Tumblr users will read a post complaining about normalized misogyny and hyperfocus on your claim that it's ok to dislike dogs

peter for attitude magazine's october 2002 release, issue 102 (x, x)
I really like this website because somebody will be like βthereβs nothing wrong with darting out from behind a parked car into traffic, bootlickerβ and you can be like okay this clearly evolved from a valid point about how the US is too car-centric. But something happened to it.
when everything feels like the movies you bleed just to know youre alive. or so ive heard.

Go! Rocky, Go!
i wish we were able to talk about women's rights without someone mentioning how much they do or don't want to have sex with them. i don't care if you're a lesbian Stop finding worth in women purely from their perceived attractiveness
"I think women should not be expected to shave for societal respect / to avoid discrimination" "yeahπ€€ i love bush" ok well that's not what we're talking about is it.
i hate how many posts about trans women deserving respect always devolve into "I love girldick" or "trans rights but I don't want to date a trans person" because that's entirely unrelated to the topic at hand. you should not respond to feminism with "YESSS I loveeee you because I see you as nothing but a sex object" you people sound like other men I get stuck talking with that end up saying "free the nipple so I can see boobies in public" and thinking they're feminists. why can't we just respect women regardless of your attraction to them or not. why does it need to be brought up in every conversation regarding their rights
PSA the "si" in shared YouTube links stand for Seal Indicator. This means there is a nefarious seal tracking your information and will give YouTube your data in exchange for fish. My honest advice if you are reading something (especially something academic or non-fiction) that you don't understand is to read it again. And again, if you need to. And again.
I read the same three or four pages of the new network analysis paper probably six times yesterday, and at some point I had the math notation page on Wikipedia open for reference, and I don't have a subject matter expert's understanding but I do get more of it than I did when I started. And the next time I read it I'll understand it more.
Literally work it out sentence by sentence if you have to. You can learn how to understand things, even if it takes a lot of iterations.

Not to sound like a horrible hater but I really don't get the point of OC "adopts" (or adopts in general, but also wouldn't they all be OCs idk)
Like isn't the point of an OC to come up with the design and character and story yourself that's why it's your Original Character
But clearly I don't get it because I just saw someone who was allegedly successfully selling $80USD OC adopts
Someone is paying $80 for permission to think about a guy? To be "allowed" to draw a guy and also be like "and only I can draw this guy because I paid for it" with zero actual copyright/trademark documentation....? Paying real human money for the vibes of exclusivity?
I feel like if I were to see an adopt I liked I would simply chuck it on the inspiration pile along with many other things and then continue to develop my own OC that I create and feel attachment to
And look I'm glad artists are getting paid and ppl aren't using genAI so I'm not knocking it per se I'm just dumbfounded π it seems antithetical to the point of OCs and also odd to pay for permission to think about a guy
they used to let kids have real fun
There's an xkcd for that :3
Side note: polonium-210 is a very dangerous isotope, however it "does not pose a radiation hazard when kept outside the body", as the alpha particle it emits have very little penetration power and cannot pierce even the outer layers of dead skin. It has still killed countless people, though, not because of children's rings, but because of tobacco. Polonium latches onto and concentrates in tobacco leaves, leading to heavy smokers being exposed to more radiation than survivors of the Chernobyl disaster.
It's always wild to me seeing comments about different toxins like this on information about random things in the past, but it's never discussed when it comes to cigarettes.
Adding a relevant source on the polonium-210 in tobacco and how the industry tried to keep it quiet
