this is not up for debate <3
if i had a lame ass boyfriend i would hype him so much i would make him wait out side so i could go in first and be like get ready here comes the most specialest boy ever if you dont cheer and clap for him ill fucking blow this whole building up
this is my favorite comic ever i never don’t want to see it on my dash
as funny as top/bottom/switch jokes can be, i wanna drill into queer kids heads that those terms are 1) not myers-briggs personality types 2) likely not something you know about yourself if you're a virgin 3) inherently sexual and therefore 4) not something adults should assign you, even as a joke
a lot of people draw fat characters as like Vaguely Round stomach, throw on stretch marks (drawn in a way that stretch marks DO NOT work) and often body hair (for some reason?? like i’m fat and have body hair but it seems like fat artwork is OBSESSED with adding it on as some sort of statement), pert boobs, maybe the glimmer of a double chin, big ol’ thighs cause they’re in vogue rn, and maybe round upper arms
and it’s like… zero acknowledgement of sag
or how you can be fat and have small boobs/ass/thighs/hips
no thick neck along with the double chin
no fat rolls
all fat people are also drawn to have looooong legs as if to apologize for the rest of the proportions
i look at a “fat” character and what i see is just a skinny character with weight added on, even though that’s not how that works
and it’s just very clear to me that some artists want credit for “diversity” but don’t want to actually look at fat bodies. they apologize with hyper feminine outfits or the implication that the fat character is athletic or something. the fat character still has the perfect figure because “well, some fat people DO still have curves like that!”
we’re thicc and thick and “chubby” and plus size.
but we’re never actually fat. even the “largest” characters i have seen drawn are just… larger chubby girls. zero acknowledgement of how fatness actually works.
Anyways! I don’t want this to be a wholly negative post with no takeaway other than “You should feel bad” (but you probably should), so here is what looks like a good resource:
Here’s a link to the tweet.
Too many people base their understanding of fat bodies on plus size models, who are photoshopped, molded with cut outs, and chosen specifically because of how they still fit conventional beauty standards. They are not indicative of how most fat bodies look.
Please take the time to look at fat bodies that aren’t marketable and appreciate them for their own worth, beauty, and fortitude. Do not let fat bodies be alien to you, do not otherize us. This should be normalized.
Fat people deserve art and media that reflect fat bodies honestly. Seeing plus size models as our only rep only ends up setting out a new, impossible goal for fat people. We’re made to feel that we aren’t fat in the right way. It sends the message that you can fail at being skinny AND fail at being fat, which is an awful thing to do. No body is a bad body. All bodies deserve to be seen and to see themselves.
Fat people deserve to be seen as fat people, not as skinny people with added weight.
May I recommend the Morpho book about fat and skin folds! For people who are looking for a source that explains/shows how all the folds and sag actually work and affect the body. I imagine the info provided in this book can work very well paired with those reference photos. The chapters of the books on any topic are always divided into 1. head/neck 2. torso. 3. upper limb. 4. lower limb ( even includes drawing babies)

This is the faggiest post I’ve ever seen, way to try and ruin Metal music.
I'd say, "That's not a nice thing to say about yourself" but lumping you in with the gay community is an insult to the gay community.
Though I find it funny that you've created a whole online identity around how much you hate Biden. You really should get a hobby.
Not metal music, though. Alternative communities generally frown on bigotry. Maybe country? All those songs about big trucks seem like they really match your energy.
🤏🤏🤏

90% of metal is anti-bigotry, anti-trump, anti-government, etc.
If you're a metal head and a bigot then you know nothing about your own fucking community.
Are they really a metalhead at that point, though?
Or are they just trying to compensate with loud noises and screaming?
That's why I suggested country music. Bet he has a big truck. 🤏🤏🤏

I get the instinct to brush off conservatives in the metal scene as not being trve metalheads or something like that, I really do. I subscribe to the understanding that metal music is originally supposed to be contestatory and left leaning. But that’s a pretty dangerous stance. I mean, I personally know the frustration of finding some nice sounding bm band that I know nothing about, doing a bit of research and thinking “wow, these guys reaaally like werewolves don’t they?”, either that having that jolt of anxiety when you realize from which specific country they’re from.
There’s a huge racist problem in metal. This isn’t something new, kristian vikernes was being a piece of shit in the norwegian scene 30 years ago already and claiming that his band isn’t metal even though it fits every definition would be naive. It needs to be acknowledged as a part of the landscape in order to be addressed. Otherwise frankly it will just be all the easier for them and people like this conspiracy theorist to fly under the radar. For every Municipal Waste, Napalm Death, or Rotting Christ there’s a taake, marduk, or watain (to name the milder examples) and they are all within the metal music and community umbrella.
I understand this is not a comfortable thing and goes against an idealized vision of metal’s inherent counter-cultural spirit, but the fact of the matter is that every year in ukraine there’s a huge black metal festival catering to literal nazis, that people like phil anselmo are still being hailed as some of this music’s greats, that whenever you find a new band these days you better immediately go check their encyclopedia metallum page to see who are their members, what other projects they worked on, who they made splits with, what other bands are signed to their label, that there are groups on facebook dedicated exclusively to vetting bands so we can know which bands are and aren’t fascist. Unfortunately, metal is not an exclusivity of the left, and sweeping it under the rug will do us no favor. I lost count of amount of times I considered giving up on metal altogether because of how rampant this problem is, especially the more you go into the more obscure and extreme music.
This feels like a good point to talk about a theory I've been working on.
But I've had a migraine for 3 or 4 days and today alone feels like it's been 3 days.
So instead I'll just say metal as a music genre comes from Black culture, and I feel it's my duty as a metalhead to help decolonize the genre by supporting non-white metal bands and calling out racist metalheads.
So people like my friend (who is Black and a metalhead) can feel safe being at concerts?
Plus I think with the way metal is starting to incorporate rap and hiphop and how the themes are about how shitty life can be, I feel that it's a genre Black people can relate to more.
Racism and everything it's caused is a whole lot shittier than whatever Five Finger Death Punch is bitching about in their song Sham Pain, "Wah, poor me. Life is so hard being rich and famous."
Decolonize metal music. Support the idea metal is pro-black as a genre
