Periodically people on social media float the idea of a film adaptation of medieval Irish texts like Táin Bó Cúailnge, but increasingly I feel like a musical would be its most natural form of adaptation.

For starters, it's prosimetric and the most emotional bits are all in verse already, half the work's done. Secondly, bombastic, over-the-top set pieces where spectacle and effect is as important as the literal events? Musical theatre has it for you.

#film would try to make the grotesque and absurd parts into something visually comprehensible #but i just don't think they're supposed to be. i think they're about effect and emotion #theatre wouldn't be able to do them literally and so wouldn't try. and therefore would do them much better #also the feats as dance is their natural form.
