Coding SCP 079

I’m in a group of 4 for my capstone Comp Sci project and we had to come up with a group name. So, I made a short document introducing ourself since I like graphic design stuff, and when I sent my team members this title page as a demo to see how they like the design, one of them asked if our name could just be “team.name”

Ayo there! Lately now that I work a full time job that requires me to program, it sadly cut into a lot of my side projects. However, if it’s of any interest, the current project I’m working on at work is developing an app for our sister company to file some of their paperwork through, particularly their service calls (my company and theirs engineer conveyor systems, and while I’m more on the programming side they do more maintenance and upkeep of existing system)

However, in terms of personal projects, one that I’ve been occasionally working on is a semi-text based choice game that elapses over the course of one night. The text onscreen has a backdrop of mountains and the night sky, and the more choices a user gets through, the further the night sky moves, eventually becoming dawn. If you reach the morning, you win, but I’m still developing the storyline.

It has been awhile, but I’m back!

I’ve gotten a new job so it’s been sucking up all my time as of late. I’ve been working as a paid intern for a controls engineering position (industrial automation and all that), which is honestly really close to my dream job of working in robotics, and I’ve been so happy with my career!

Although, it does come with drawbacks. I work over full time, and most of my time at work is a lot of programming and electrical/mechanical troubleshooting for industrial automation systems. And since a lot of my company’s job sites run 24/7, we work long hours and sometime graveyard if a site needs us.

Sadly, it has taken a significant dent in my free time. I continue to code here and there in my free time, but my time is very limited now. I can continue posting little coding projects of mine here and there, but for the most part, I won’t be able to work on anything big.

Hello there, first and foremost thank you so much!

When I was making the game, I was in a java class at the time that required a game program as the final project. I knew my teacher had no idea what SCP was, so I refaced it and it ended up being the skeleton for a Cryptid game that was very broken but also a bit more complex than I could’ve handle. I still have the orignal SCP code, and learning what I’ve learned from working with a similar structure for the Cryptid game I can probably do a lot more with it, however the biggest draw back will be the mountain of art I’ll have to do for it. When I have time to chew through some more game art, I’ll be able to code more scenes.

Tradionally, we think of AIs and similar robots to be very cold and devoid of emotions, or at least lacking tradionally emotional responses.

And following the cliche we have in our minds, it might be very easy to assume SCP 079 would fall in line with the tradional logic-rooted emotionally absent creature that we make robots out to be, but I think quite the opposite is true.

Rather than SCP 079 being a cool collected super-intelligent AI, I actually think they are actually very emotional and emotionally driven.

079 has no sense. No sight, touch, hearing or otherwise environment-discerning features. It’s only source of input from the outside world is people typing on its keyboard. It’s the only interaction it gets, and what’s the first thing 079 does whenever the person typing gets slightly disagreeable or rude?

079 shuts down communication, preferring to block its only form of environmental input in favor of giving someone the silent treatment. That is a highly emotional reaction, one that’s putting emotions far before logic; rather than take little to no offense in order to keep the conversation going and receiving more data it must be desperate to get its hands on, it instead throws a fit over how they’re being treated. They have a well-defined sense of emotions and are more emotional than they are logical.

Canon SCP 682 and SCP 079 are basically already pretty gay, my good sir. And if they weren’t then I would’ve made them hella gay anyways.

The project had been on hold due to life issues, but I’m back on it baby!

The robo design has since been upgraded to a bipedal model (still cardboard lol), and I will be implementing a new program to search, separate, and process words of a sentence into noun, pronoun, verb, object, adverb, preposition, or adjective. I may be forgetting one but I do not have my grammar notes open at the moment, as it took quite an English lesson (although a very interesting one at that) to learn how one with knowledge of only part of the words in a sentence may be able to deduce what kind of word the unknown words may be.

For example, in the sentence “I ate five dry cookies”, let’s say the AI does not have the adjective “dry” in its vocabulary. Knowing the “I ate” is a pronoun-verb combo, and that the next word is a quantitative adjective (”five”) followed by the unknown word and then the subject/object “cookie”, I want the AI to then deduce “dry” is a modifying adjective of “cookies”, even if it may not know what “dry” exactly means. Almost no other word but an adjective would be set between another adjective and its modifying object.

Hello, sadly currently thanks to the miracle of cardboard the little robo is currently disassembled, although perhaps later today I’ll reassemble his very unsturdy (but easy to modify) cardboard body to show the little guy’s new bipedal look. However, back when I received this message I was still working on the 4-legged model, of which I will show below.

Thanks! I’ve been gone for awhile because things got a little crazy, but I’m back now!

Hello again! It’s been an awful long while, for a multitude of reasons. But in summation, school got very hectic (I’m now in a physics course, calculus II, and the last programming class offered in the C++ series at my school, Algorithms), I’ve entered my first long-term relationship in awhile so that’s been taking bites out of my free time (our 6th month is at the end of this month c:), and I began suffering from a lot of gastrointestinal distress, mainly nausea and vomiting, of which I’ve been seeing specialists about and it seems to not be from any exact clear origin, although I was tested positive for both gastritis and gastroparesis.

It pained me to set aside my little projects I had going on but it had to be done at the time. I have worked on and added to them occasionally, and my 4-legged robotic model shifted into a 2-legged one, and while I did have a basic walking animation set on the original servo microcontroller, I’m currently in the process of redoing it in a raspberry pi to grant me more control over the movements.

More is to come, although progress will be slower and delayed, and I may focus a bit more on the communicative aspect for a bit, and pick up where I left off on the word recognition and sentence dissection.

Of course! In a matter of fact, the project has recently been on hold, because I’ve been studying robotics and intend on uploading the AI to a small 4-legged robot that would have the ability to roam and process its environment. In canon 079 is depicted as a trapped AI in a microcomputer, but if I’m making a machine that is intended to learn to its heart’s content, then it’s only fair I give it a body to facilitate that drive.

The core motors to operate movement and joints will be controlled via two micro controllers (of which only 4 joints corresponding to the shoulders are currently operable; I need to upgrade to a stronger battery for remainding 4 “knee” joints), while the main AI will primarily be running through a raspberry pi reserved almost solely for the AI’s thought, environmental processing, and machine learning.

I have 2 audio processing modules to add in a later stage, so that rather than typing to it I’ll be able to sample my voice and get it to understand me verbally, but that’s still a long ways away.
