I rarely run in the morning unless I have to - essentially my early morning runs are either fuelled by jet-lag, or caused by a race start time. However, I actually have come to realize that I quite enjoy the peaceful quiet of the dark (after sunset). I’ve found many times you can quickly escape the hustle of the city and traffic and get into the countryside much quicker in the night. The feeling of turning your back on the town and disappearing down a trail seems to be amplified when there’s less cars and people in the first place. Frequently I enjoy the nature of that as well. Seeing some eyes reflected on a nearby hillside, or wondrous insects illuminated by my headlight sometimes feels like being in a science fiction movie. Running at night on snow is another lovely experience when you’re alone with the crunching of your feet, and the snow sparkles. In the summer when it’s a warm evening it can feel a lot more pleasant than having the sun beat down on you - you’re still sweating but the heat isn’t so oppressive. So far in 2019 I’ve run through snow every month... ironically December and January are the least likely months for that! Currently in Glasgow 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, the weather has been actually not bad (dark though!), next stop @gloriasportsarena 🇹🇷 with zero chance of snow, then Las Vegas 🇺🇸, again no chance...
