If ur unconvinced of this theory 3 main points be upon ye: - No way AFO just happened to stumble across the grandchild of his nemesis who had just accidentally killed his entire family due to an unexpected mutated quirk. He def pulled some strings. - Narrative parallelism between both Izuku and Tomura having been quirkless.  - It’s been established that OFA can only be possessed for a long period of time by someone who’s quirkless, because they have a void spot where the quirk can go, that makes me think that AFO works the same way, AFO probably knew this so it makes sense he’d choose a quirkless person to possess inherent his power

I just got caught back up after taking a break from the series and the way Horikoshi neither babies nor vilifies the traumatized characters makes me very happy. There are heroes and villains who have both dealt with abuse and the dividing line between them isn’t the experience itself but how they deal with it. I personally relate to Todoroki a lot especially because his situation mirrors my own greatly but when Dabi elaborated on his motives I also empathized immensely. Sometimes I feel like Im walking the line between the two of them and it really reminded me that I was making my abusive father the most important person in my life by ruminating on all the shit he did to me and my family. Dabi did the same and inadvertently became his father.  Shigaraki’s also my favorite character because of this. His trauma has stunted his growth. He was groomed from a young age to become a vessel for a man who only cares about what he can do for him. He’s a bad person but at some points you wonder how much of that is him. I really thought that when Shigaraki took all for one after refusing help in his weird dream thing from his family that that was it for his character. I thought that was Horikoshi telling us he chose to renounce his humanity and not become a person. I was surprised and so happy when Deku described wanting to save him. Horikoshi portrayed grooming and abuse in such a tactful and realistic way imo. Even if the metaphors can get heavy handed (AFO literally possessing Shigaraki) a big part of the super hero genre is to take abstract concepts like manipulation and create concrete manifestations of them within a story.
