Racism in fandom spaces is actually insanely bad and if you ever try to downplay or avoid conversations about it because "fandom is supposed to be fun" then I'm not sorry to say this: You're adding on to the problem.

If POC speaking up about a fandom's racism issue offends you more than the racism itself, you need to think about that. You need to think about how POC fighting racism offends you more than the racism.

People will be so mean to teenagers do you literally not remember what it was like to be sixteen. Every time I talk to a teenager I feel I should hold their hands and tell them I think they're one of the bravest people on the planet just for choosing to endure but I don't because I don't want to be creepy.

As a person going into secondary education and who gets asked constantly why, this. Just this.

Will chose to come out in front of everyone because they were people going into battle with him and he knew him keeping it a secret was a weakness he would have in said battle. It makes sense that Will decided to come out to everyone. Will could've easily said nothing which he almost did, but realized he didn't want to. This wasn't just him coming out, this was him saying my abuser has no control over me anymore and I'm going to be vocal about what he did to me. It was a scene intertwining his sexuality storyline and his trauma storyline. Especially with Vecna just having control over his body and mind, forcing him to spy against his will and taking away his autonomy for the third time. Something Will blamed himself for. He decided not to do that anymore because it wasn't his fault. The whole thing is about him making the choice to take back his body and mind and make his own decisions. I think it was done pretty well.

Fandom needs to go back to it’s roots of shipping without any expectation of canon agreement, shipping characters that have never even met, shipping characters from entirely different properties that came out decades apart, shipping just for fun, and generally speaking mostly not bothering the creators about it. Put fandom back in the shadows, being profitable has only made everything worse as grifters saw easy marks and forcing creators to play pattycake with fandom has led to so much open resentment.
