That was helpful! But what about the actual coloring/painting process for the arcana style?
So I made this art tip by showing how i usually paint in Arcana style!
I only made the tutorial of painting headshot so far, so if you wanna know how i paint clothes or other things, feel free to askš
Model ļ¼Richard @heyoojustcallmerichard
OK, some are asking brush settings and the texture i used in this tutorial so im leaving them hereššš
The texture i used is the second one under āno texture. ā (all my paper textures and brush textures are mojibake, so everytime i wanna add textures i have to try all of them one by one;^; #lifeishard
I pulled the source file in case ours paper textures are not in the same orderš
A guide on my process for colouring like in the Arcana which I developed through studying the style.
Now, this is just for sprites or for neutral lighting. In the case of most memories/CGs, you have more interesting colours to use, but the process is identical. There are just extra steps.
Using my favourite memories for each character as examples (hopefully, you can tell which ones) you can see this process. All of this happens on layers above the base drawing.
Usually, you set a colour-filled layer to the setting āmultiplyā over the entire drawing, then using aĀ āscreenā,Ā āaddā, orĀ āhard lightā layer, you add the lighting. Depending on the intensity of the lighting, the outline will be coloured to be lighter.
The shading colour rarely changes, aside from slight hue changes.
Misc advice/tips/tricks below. I may update it depending on if I get further questions.

Yuri manga by women about women (who aren't in high school)
Sadly a lot of them are one shots, but thereās a few longer ones. A lot of yuri manga is tragically too short and Iām always left wanting more. D:Ā
After some struggles with myself, I ended up putting stories about college aged women so long as itās not āinnocent school lifeā heavy.Ā
Yamaji Ebine
Love my Life (this one has a movie. A uni student coming out to her father and finding that her parents were both queer as well.)
Indigo BlueĀ (A novelist caught between feelings for her boyfriend but also her feelings for another woman.)
Free SoulĀ (22 year old aspiring manga artist writing a manga about a black jazz singer. Artist falls for a trumpeter of a jazz band.)
Sweet Lovin BabyĀ (A young woman befriends a lesbian couple and falls for them. With three other short stories.) Ā
Morishima Akiko
Conditions for Paradise- An OL in love with a world hopping freelance journalist
Weāre Aiming for Love Now (Journalist and a cutie in a cosplay store)
Happy Picture DiaryĀ - (REALLY FUNNY. An social worker and an editorās daily life together. All chibi but with some really real lesbian life jokes)
Off-Time (an aging lesbian short one shot)
20-Year-Old Girl x 30-Year-Old Maiden- (one shot, a 30 year old sensitive about her age with a 20 year old woman in her art class)
Princess of the Stars- (short- almost didnāt make it b/c high school flashbacks but itās college roomiesĀ and itās short and sweet- and challenges that āgirls experiment with girls in high school then grow out of itā thing that people in Japan sometimes think)
Other Artists:Ā
Ohana Holoholo:Ā Torino ShinoĀ (Saya lives with her bisexual former girlfriend and her son. Nico, an actor living up stairs and a close friend, drops by for a visit almost everyday. Ā Somewhat like family, and somewhat not, a story about their lives)
My Unique Day-Sakamoto Mano (women in an acting troupe together. one shot)
Abracadabra- Tanaka Minoru (a magician and a cute girl dealing with confessing to a girl for the first time)
Lonely Wolf, Lonely Sheep-Ā Mizutani Fuka (two women with the same name meet. Warnings for self harm)
Cirque Arachne:Ā Saida NikaĀ (Two women working in the circus in a trapeze act. Stellar cute.) Ā Ā
Maple Love- Otsu Hiyori (meeting in college; really cute)
Two that I recommend but are set apart from the others because one is written by a man and one is written with the male audience in mind respectively
Kusari ha mou iranai- Uso Kurata; two Office ladies
Octave- Akiyama Haru (seinen manga; a talent manager and a songwriter)
This is by no means an exhaustive list and I know thereās more (one particularly that I wanted to put on here but couldnāt remember the title of) so feel free to add on your favorite adult queer lady manga to the list!
Rica Takashima - Rica ātte Kanji?!Ā is a short graphic novel about Takashimaās university years in Tokyo in the local LGBTQ scene and dating her girlfriend.
Takeuchi Sachiko - Honey & HoneyĀ is a cute slice of life autobiographical novel about the authorās relationship with her girlfriend. Ā She throws in explanations of Japanās LGBTQ culture as well.

this guide covers the basics of adding items and color options and what various settings do, as well as some slightly more complicated things like layers and using color palettes. at the end iāve added a section on tags and publishing and stuff.
iāve tried my best to make this tutorial simple and easy to follow, so i hope people find it useful!
lastly, this post probably wonāt show up tumblr searches because of Forbidden Linksā¢, so feel free to reblog or just spread the link around

Whatās the different between dark mori and post apocalyptic fashion??? And strega for that matter
Iām not personally familiar with strega fashion, but mori originally came from japan, where the point was to look like an otherworldly forest spiritā hence why itās called āmori,ā which means āforestā in japanese.
Dark mori is a more western take onĀ āgoth-ingā that up, and has resulted in blending more witchy styles with japanese mori silhouettes. I often think of dark mori like fashion banshees and general unseelie type vibes, but the general point is it should feel dark but from the forest or with a ānatureā aura.
Post apoc fashion on the other hand is highly inspired by science fiction, and is essentially a way to fashionize the styles we like from movies. Mad max without spiky armor, star wars tatooine or jakku fashion, etc. Post apoc fash often focuses more on the ādesert wastelandā direction of speculative fiction, and uses sun-protecting layers as well as a lot of dusty colors (charcoals, dusty tans, etc). Iāve also noticed a lot of sedated military greens, and general light inspiration from military utility items to give the clothes a more faux-practical look. Thereās usually a ruined industrial feeling to it
And as a final note, a lot of fashion trends inspire each other, so there will always be a lot of overlap especially in smaller scenes. There are convergent evolutions too, so while styles may have started in different areas or from a different background, sometimes theyāll end up looking similar just because of whatās popular at the time (like currently streetwear is still pretty obsessed with drop-crotch silhouettes, etc)

For trans guys, getting a first suit can seem daunting. However, with the help of infographics like these, the process can be made simple. The most important aspect of the suit is how it fits. No suit comes ready made for anyone, even cis-men! Ā Believe it or not, it is possible to find a suit that fits you! Donāt rush it, shop around, and talk to a tailor. If possible, always have your suit tailored to your individual needs. An ill fitting suit can make you appear younger, smaller, and less mature, so when looking for a suit check for these signs in the mirror. Then go talk to a tailor!Ā
Iāve been waiting to write this post for ⦠I donāt know, 4 years? Thatās why Iām that much more delighted to finally tell you thatĀ Pixel Logic: AĀ Guide to Pixel ArtĀ (@pixel-logic), a digital book that started its way on Indiegogo all the way back at the end of 2014, is finally fully released!Ā
Written by Michael ā@michafrarāĀ AzziĀ (and a dozen of guest artists ā¦Ā @unseven, @jinndevil, @pixosproutĀ to name just a few), Pixel Logic is your ultimate tome of knowledge about all things specific to the art of tiny squares.
Weighing in at 242 pages, Pixel Logic spans 9 chapters which quickly leave introductory basics behind for a deep dive into things that make pixel art a unique art form: anti-aliasing, dithering, sub-pixeling, and less talked aboutābut just as crucialātopics of readability and clean-up.Ā
While it wonāt teach you how to draw in terms of shading and anatomy (for that you can use hundreds of resources on art fundamentals out there already), the book does attack foundational areas that matter a great deal in video games, namely graphical projections and animation.
All topics are neatly illustrated with Michaelās art, guest artistsā work, useful diagrams, and plenty of examples from classic and modern pixel art games. ThanksĀ to the colorful design by Jenna ā@cyanatarāā Brown, working your way through the content is just as charming as it is super useful.
If you ever wanted all major areas of pixel art knowledge neatly gathered in one place, your wish has been granted (and then some). Pixel Logic is available in both English and French for the very affordable price of $9 or more, and even comes with an enhanced PDF of the Animation chapter that has GIFs embedded right into the book. You can get the first chapter as a free preview, in case you want to get a taste before you buy.
This is now a must-have in your artist arsenal, right next to the $1 kindle title Learning Pixel Art, which I also always recommend for intermediate/advanced pixel artists. Itās not the end of the story for pixel art books though;Ā Make Your Own Pixel ArtĀ by Jennifer DaweĀ is already looming on the horizon. See you back in March!

When you guys have visited potential apartments, what kind of questions did you ask besides the basics like what rent and utilities include?
Here are questions I didnāt ask but should have: what does the basement look like?
What measures are taken to secure the building ?
Are the walls thin? Brief info of who lives in the building. Are they college kids? People that work through the day? Elderly? Is it a mix? Where does the garbage go?
Can I pay rent bi-weekly? What kind of fuses does the apartment use? (My fuse box is in the basement. If I blow a fuse I have to replace it myself. They screw until the box. All of which I didnāt know until it happend and I was sitting in the dark suddenly)
Who do I call for repairs? (If itās a private rental) Am I allowed to paint the walls? Is there any additional storage? Do you do regular pest control?
count the outlets, ask about recycling policies, ask if thereās a noise restriction (nothing loud after midnight, everything goes on the weekend, etc)
LAUNDRY FACILITIES Definitely ask about security Whether subletting is allowed (esp if youāre in college and might want to sublet for the summer) If you have a car, whether thereās parking/how much it costs What kind of heating/AC there is Procedure/response time for any maintenance How mail/packages are received/protected from theft (seriously people stealing your packages can be a huge problem) What kind of verification of your salary will they want, and in what circumstances will they accept a guarantor instead? Whether the apartment is furnished
Assuming you are in the middle of looking at/choosing between places: When does the lease start? Are you going to give preference to people based on when they can move in? Whether groups of a certain number of people get preference Really anything about who they prioritize for applications, it can save you a lot of trouble in trying to apply to places youāll never get into
not something for asking the realtors, necessarily, but important rights you should be aware of as a tenant:
when and for what reasons are your landlords allowed to enter your home? how much of a notice should they give you before entering?
can the landlord make modifications to your home or apartment without your approval? to what extent?
what are the options and conditions for breaking your lease early if thereās an emergency? (this is ESPECIALLY important for anyone moving to a new state/considerable distance where you are not able to visit the apartment/home before you rent ā students get taken advantage of ALL THE TIME with this shit)
if your first or last month at the property is a partial stay (i.e. you move in on july 15th, and rent is typically due on the first) make sure you donāt pay the full first monthās rent before you know the area laws! in many states, you are only legally required to pay for the time you are occupying the property
is renterās insurance necessary? many apartments want at least 30k coverage, which can run a couple hundred dollars extra per year
are the landlords/property management liable for crimes on the property? for example, if your car was broken into. if not GET RENTERāS INSURANCE
-ask if thereās any property upkeep you can do to get a bit off the rent (aka, can they take 100$ off the monthly rent if you maintain the lawns/garden, etc.)Ā
-ask if thereās been any consistent/frequent trouble with electricity/internet connectivity/cable if you have it
-what KIND of electricity?Ā
-what kind of heating (hot water/electric)
-how secure is the neighborhood (if you donāt know)Ā
-ANY PLUMBING ISSUES? check ALL the fucking taps, the showers, EVERYTHING WITH WATER to make sure it all works right.Ā
-ANY PLUMBING ISSUES? check ALL the fucking taps, the showers, EVERYTHING WITH WATER to make sure it all works right.Ā
I CANNOT SECOND THIS ENOUGH.
ALSO
- who last lived here? why did they leave?
- Do they charge anĀ āamenities feeā (Around here you canāt avoid them at all now, but some places you might still be able to)
- Do they have a policy on rent increases? (Also check if thereās a legal limit to rent increases in the area).
- Are utilities paid in a separate check or with the rent?
- Are utilities metered or pro-rated (in older buildings itās common to be charged by square footage and/or number of occupants, which can leave you subsidizing the people who turn the a/c down to 60 in the summer or the heat up to 80 in the winter - you may not be able to avoid this but itās worth trying).
- Are there any switched circuits in the apartment. Buildings built in the late sixties through the early eighties oftenĀ have switched circuits. If they do, then with the number of devices used these days you will probably have to have something important on the switched circuit - tape the switch in the on position! (Trust me).
- What are the rules on hanging pictures?
- Who is responsible for paying for and replacing bulbs in permanent fixtures? If itās you and thereās a fixture with weird/unusual bulbs (globe style, chandelier style, etc) ask where you can buy the bulbs.
- What are the rules about pets? Do they have breed specific restrictions on dogs? Size restrictions on fish tanks? (Believe it or not thatās not uncommon).
This will be so useful once my lease is up thanks tumblr āŗļøšš¾
If you have roommates, even if theyāre your friends, ask what happens if one person moves out. Who is responsible for their rent? What about security deposit, how much is it and what do you have to do to document existing damages before you move in?
- Itās boring as hell, but read the lease before you sign it! Ask questions and clarify anything you notice that seems weird or that you donāt understand. I had a landlord that required I get the carpets professionally steam cleaned (which I didnāt realize until we were moving out because I didnāt read the entire lease) and another that tried to keep part of my security deposit because I didnāt pay for professional cleaning, but we got the money back because it wasnāt part of their lease that weād signed.
- Take pictures/make detailed notes about damages already present on move-in. Add additional sheets to what they give you if needed because chances are theyāre going to be just as nitpicky when you move out to try and keep part of your security deposit.
- An addition to the hanging pictures - ask what they allow you to use (nails/screws or tape only) and whether they want you to repair the holes to keep part of your deposit. If youāre planning to wall mount your TV, ask specifically about using molly bolts because theyāre going to leave a much larger hole than a picture nail.
Iām sure a ton of people already know how to do this, but I only learned recently, so I wanted to share one of my favorite thumbnailing tricks! Color matching is SUPER helpful to quickly map out potential color schemes :D
[EDIT] this is in Adobe Photoshop, sorry for forgetting to mention that!
