FWIW, "mauve" was one of the coal-tar dyes developed in the mid-19th century that made eye-wateringly bright clothing fashionable for a few decades.
It was an eye-popping magenta purple
HOWEVER, like most aniline dyes, it faded badly, to a washed-out blue-grey ...
...which was the color ignorant youngsters in the 1920s associated with âmauveâ.
(This dress is labeled "mauve" as it is the color the above becomes after fading).
They colored their vision of the past with washed-out pastels that were NOTHING like the eye-popping electric shades the mid-Victorians loved. This 1926 fashion history book by Paul di Giafferi paints a hugely distorted, I would say dishonest picture of the past.
Ever since then this faded bluish lavender and not the original electric eye-watering hot pink-purple is the color associated with the word âmauveâ.
Art conservator here! I did part of my master's degree on Perkin's mauve dye (which he named mauveine) and it's a violet purple, not quite so magenta as that first dress pic. I got to do chemical analysis on an actual 1856 sample of the dye! And the sample I dissolved and painted out on paper most resembled Pantone 266, which apparently translates to hex #7329b0. Mauveine is significant because it was THE FIRST synthetic dye ever made.
And it was actually quite fade-resistant! Much moreso than natural dyes. People in the 1920s would have known about their grandmothers' super bright colors, because those dresses were still folded up in the attic or still in scraps in patchwork quilts, and their grannies were right there to tell them (just like my 2020s niece recently tried on some 1960s dresses that belongd to my mom). And the word magenta has kept its meaning, even though it was also an aniline dye of the same era (and might be the dye in that first dress, aka fuchsine). So I don't know why the word mauve came to mean a muddy pale color, but I don't think it's because later generations were ignorant about historic dye colors. Apparently the color name "mauve taupe" was first used in 1925 for a muddy purple, so maybe that was the start of the shift.
PS, mauve is named for the French word for the mallow flower (probably this one, Malva sylvestris). I love it.
PS! (Sorry-not-sorry, I just really love mauveine history), read more about Perkin's mauve here! And look at this dress dyed with mauveine. Gorgeous! I can barely imagine how amazing that time must have been, to see previously unattainable brilliant flower colors on fabric. We're so used to having fabric in absolutely any color we want, but there just wasn't any purple dye like that ever before.
PPS (SORRY AGAIN!) I was curious about that first dress, and I searched around and found that it was listed on another tumblr as being mauveine, but that was incorrect. The dress lives at the V&A and they describe it as being a magenta dye, but they don't identify which dye. But also, the first picture posted here appears to have been color enhanced compared to the V&A's photos. Go and look, it's gorgeous.
Hi again OP! By the mid-late 19th century, most printer's inks were just as stable as fabric dyes, or even moreso. Some were also aniline dyes like the ones used in fabric. Maybe someone in fashion started hyping a muddy purple as the cool new mauve and soon everyone was talking about it, like how "millennial pink" got invented. I think more fashion/design history research is needed, which is not my forte.
Seeing as how I know at some point Iâll want to make my own SSR birthday cards for my OCs, I figured Iâd go ahead and make some simple blank edits for every dorm! I did my best to match the colors to their respective dormsâ cards, so theyâll fit right in alongside their canon dormmatesâ~
All are free for use for whomever wants to make some for themselves too! If youâre wanting to use them, feel free to tag back to me or this source! Otherwise, I hope they bring some good to whomever wishes to use them~

SHORT STORY/ONE-SHOT/ONE CHAPTER/COMICS 101 CRASH COURSE RAPIDPUNCHESâ STYLE
Iâm NOT an expert but I have some working experience I can share. You need experience to become great. Here is my set of instructions, tips, and notes towards making a 12-page comic.
My method is to work backwards. Personally I work âbackwardsâ because the end is the only wholly necessary page or set of panels in the story. Everything in between is open to editing and hacking as the most important moments are emphasized and chosen.
I even plan/draw the end page first. The end is the last page a reader sees- so spend your freshest energies on making it as epic, memorable, poignant, and beautiful as #$%^&.
If you draw the pages from 1 to 12 sequentially you run the risk of fresh to burnt out- an uneven distribution of drawing skill. (treat the first page and the 2-page splash as you would the last).
Roughly⊠the steps to making your comic is
WRITE
PLAN THUMBNAILS
DRAW
âŠBEGIN THE WRITING (DO NOT SKIP NO MATTER WHAT) like this, in this order:
How does it end?
Does the protag succeed or fail?
What is the turning point of their story?
What the protag do that led them there?
Where does it start?
Who is this protag?
EXAMPLE:
Guy gets mauled by a bear.
This is a fail on the guyâs half.
The bear must eat something or heâll starve to death.
Itâs the guyâs fault the bear canât find other food. He caused the avalanche that buried all the cabins.
The guy is yodeling in an avalanche zone.
The guy is some guy.
CREATING âTHE BEAT SHEETâ
Take the above stuff and reorder it to make sense.
This guy yodels.
Echoes roll.
Snow slides down.
Avalanche buries the mountain.
Cabins are engulfed.
This bear has no access to cabin food and garbage.
Bear eats this guy.
Expand. Blow up important beats for emphasis. Keep less important beats brief.
This guy is hiking in the snowy mountains.
He comes across an avalanche warning sign.
There is nobody around but him.
A dumb expression forms over his face and he yodels.
Echoes roll but nothing nearby is moved.
At the top of the mountain the snow drifts twitch.
Guy, satisfied, hikes away from there still yodeling.
Frozen snow cracks.
Snow puffs billow and great slabs of ice crash down the mountain side.
Guy sees this and hightails it to safer ground.
Animals, people, are all panicking and getting pushed over by the rushing snow.
Cabins are destroyed.
The guy takes cover by an outcropping of rocks, fastens himself securely to the rock face, and waits for the avalanche to die down.
Avalanche dies down.
A lone bear shambles over from the other side of the mountain.
The bear goes to where a cabin used to be (only roof tiles are left). Bear sniffs a dish satellite.
Bear forlornly eats a food wrapper.
Bear tries to dig.
Guy comes down from the rocks he as climbing and sees bear.
Bear stops digging and sees him.
Guy runs.
Bear chases him down.
Bear eats the guy.
BEAT SHEET COMPLETED!!!
After the beat sheet, write up all the sound effects and speech bubbles and conversation/dialogue you want to be in your comic.
Since comics are a visual medium, highest priority is given to the beats. If a story canât be told with the art without the dialogueâ you messed up and itâs time to rethink your life choices.
Try to keep all your text chunks as short as a tweet. Professionally you donât want more than 25 words per speech bubble and no more than 250 words per page.
Next is translating the beats to pagesâŠ
STRUCTURE OVERVIEW:
[1] point of entry, in media res, hero intro
[2][3] conflict. establish conflict, setting, and mood by the third page.
[4][5] rising action/false resolution to conflict/investigation
[6][7] turning point/plot twist/epiphany (this one epic image, to page spread is pivotal, spend a lot of effort into creating this)
[8][9] aftermath/âdarkness before dawnâ/struggle
[10][11] recovery/ârise and conquerâ/âfallâ
[12] resolution/final end/cliffhanger
[front cover][interior]
[interior][back cover]
âââââââ
My maximum per page is nine panels but Iâve seen pages that have way more. I like to have about 3 to 4 panels per row or less but Iâve seen the ârulesâ broken before. Advanced comic book artists manipulate time with the number of panels and the size of each panel.
remember, DIAGONALS!!! open up an issue of batman, superman, spider man, deadpool or whatever youre reading theyre everywhere.
âââ-
âŠDRAW IN THIS ORDER:
Page 12,
Page 6 and 7 (this is typically one large image that takes up the space of two pages),
Page 1,
and then the rest.
ONLY âDEVIATIONâ ALLOWED:
Page 12 and 1*
Page 6 and 7,
and then the rest.
*Draw the first and last page as a spread in situations where the beginning of the story mirrors the end of the story.
Cover is dead last.
âââ-
(If at the very end you find out you need more pages and itâs absolutely unavoidable and totally necessary you have to add them in fours. Try to stick to 12 pages for this crash course.)
âââââââ
FURTHER NOTES:
Plan and draw the pages in spreads (the twos) since this is how it will appear in print and when you submit them to an editor for review guess what, the pages with an exception to the first and last will be reviewed as spreads.
You at most only need one establishing panel of the setting and environment (scene) per page.
Forget âtrue to lifeâ perspective outside of the establishing panel). Practice diagonal composition of objects and subjects within panels. For dynamism.
You donât have to present the text all in one go (one paragraph or bubble). You can and should break up paragraphs, sentences, and if you need to single out wordsâ to make smaller, more easily managed bubbles to scatter through the panel.
Less important moments have smaller panels and or lesser detail. More details (or more word bubbles) slow down time. More drawn detail also creates a concentration of values (itâs darker and sometimes combines together as one shape or mass)
Know your light sources. Control the blacks. Control the values.
heads up. the charts in the middle are very rough guides. everything about copying is super grey, you need to use your own judgementâŠalso I have more notes
Honestly thereâs such an unnecessary stigma with tracing, regardless of the context. I used to trace all the time to better understand anatomy, and I still do!
THROUGH A RAPISTâS EYESâ (PLS TAKE TIME TO READ THIS. It may save a life, It may save your life.)
An Article from Neena Susan Thomas
âThrough a rapistâs eyes. A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interviewâŠed on what they look for in a potential victim and here are some interesting facts:
1] The first thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun! , braid, or other hairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after a woman with long hair. Women with short hair are not common targets.
2] The second thing men look for is clothing. They will look for women whoâs clothing is easy to remove quickly. Many of them carry scissors around to cut clothing.
3] They also look for women using their cell phone, searching through their purse or doing other activities while walking because they are off guard and can be easily overpowered.
4] The number one place women are abducted from / attacked at is grocery store parking lots.
5] Number two is office parking lots/garages.
6] Number three is public restrooms.
7] The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman and quickly move her to a second location where they donât have to worry about getting caught.
8] If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged because it only takes a minute or two for them to realize that going after you isnât worth it because it will be time-consuming.
9] These men said they would not pick on women who have umbrellas,or other similar objects that can be used from a distance, in their hands.
10] Keys are not a deterrent because you have to get really close to the attacker to use them as a weapon. So, the idea is to convince these guys youâre not worth it.
POINTS THAT WE SHOULD REMEMBER:
1] If someone is following behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like what time is it, or make general small talk: canât believe it is so cold out here, weâre in for a bad winter. Now that youâve seen their faces and could identify them in a line- up, you lose appeal as a target.
2] If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of you and yell Stop or Stay back! Most of the rapists this man talked to said theyâd leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would not be afraid to fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target.
3] If you carry pepper spray (this instructor was a huge advocate of it and carries it with him wherever he goes,) yelling I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY and holding it out will be a deterrent.
4] If someone grabs you, you canât beat them with strength but you can do it by outsmarting them. If you are grabbed around the waist from behind, pinch the attacker either under the arm between the elbow and armpit or in the upper inner thigh â HARD. One woman in a class this guy taught told him she used the underarm pinch on a guy who was trying to date rape her and was so upset she broke through the skin and tore out muscle strands the guy needed stitches. Try pinching yourself in those places as hard as you can stand it; it really hurts.
5] After the initial hit, always go for the groin. I know from a particularly unfortunate experience that if you slap a guyâs parts it is extremely painful. You might think that youâll anger the guy and make him want to hurt you more, but the thing these rapists told our instructor is that they want a woman who will not cause him a lot of trouble. Start causing trouble, and heâs out of there.
6] When the guy puts his hands up to you, grab his first two fingers and bend them back as far as possible with as much pressure pushing down on them as possible. The instructor did it to me without using much pressure, and I ended up on my knees and both knuckles cracked audibly.
7] Of course the things we always hear still apply. Always be aware of your surroundings, take someone with you if you can and if you see any odd behavior, donât dismiss it, go with your instincts. You may feel little silly at the time, but youâd feel much worse if the guy really was trouble.
FINALLY, PLEASE REMEMBER THESE AS WELL âŠ.
1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do it.
2. Learned this from a tourist guide to New Orleans : if a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from youâŠ. chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!
3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car: Kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver wonât see you but everybody else will. This has saved lives.
4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DONâT DO THIS! The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU CLOSE the DOORS , LEAVE.
5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:
a. Be aware: look around your car as someone may be hiding at the passenger side , peek into your car, inside the passenger side floor, and in the back seat. ( DO THIS TOO BEFORE RIDING A TAXI CAB) .
b. If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.
c. Look at the car parked on the driverâs side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)
6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot).
7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN!
8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP IT! It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked âfor helpâ into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.
Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it and itâs better safe than sorry.

âOkay, okay! Hear me out on this: An MC who gifts every boy and the staff (minus Crowley) a specially made gift (alongside chocolate ofc) for Valentineâs Day. For example, Riddle gets a bouquet of roses alongside heart-shaped chocolate, Ace getting a chocolate cherry pie and a watch, and Cater gets a skateboard and spicy chocolate.
I can just imagine the chaos that will ensue.
"Hey! Your chocolate is bigger than mine!â
âNo fair! I wanted that too!â
Thank you and have a great day!â
AN UNTYPICAL VALENTINEâS
âCongratulations, MC. You have now become the Santa of Valentineâs Day!â
SUMMARY: Itâs Valentineâs Day in Twisted Wonderland, and you already know what that means: a mix of chocolates and petty discussions~! (Everyone x Fem!Reader)
WARNINGS: None⊠Other than MCâs empty wallet.
CONTENT: Ortho doesnât have a section, but his reaction is described in the introduction. Me trying to understand these boys and their past, so they might seem a little ooc. Also Liliaâs part may have end up a little too philosophical.Â
A/N: Okay okay. I know Valentineâs was five months ago, and that I was in an unexpected hiatus for more than six months, but I just really wanted to post this because this draft was eating me alive. Also, I donât know why, but Pomefioreâs part was so difficult to write, and thus, I ended up giving up temporarily.
Annnd, I know that the request asked for the staff as well, but I didnât want to make this longer than it already is, so I decided I will post it separately. Eventually.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy this! :)
WORDS: 10K+
Ah, Valentineâs Day. A lively festivity that encompasses love and friendship, usually celebrated by those who want to demonstrate affection to the people they care about the most, being in a platonic or a romantic way.
Yet, thatâs talking outside of Night Raven College, an academy thatâs full of eccentric students, and so, on behalf of that eccentricity, things are a little bit different.
And it all starts with your protective and small companion, Grim.

âI might lack the charisma of a real fairy. But since this is just a made-believe, perhaps these wings would be equally captivating. To me at least.â - Summoning
Itâs 2 AM and Iâve been editing this(;ÂŽàŒàș¶ÙčàŒàș¶`) I got too lazy to animate Ruggieâs jaw and the last part with the voice lines are just sketches, Iâm too tired to do full color </3
(Yuu is Gender-Neutral here, so you can imagine yourself and/or your OC as them)
I love the villain scorned by the world
feat: Malleus
genre: drama, hurt/comfort, romance
note: part 3 continuation of Being Reincarnated into a New World as the Bad Guy AU Malleus ver, not gender specific reader, no pronouns used, villain/ess!reader is human, insecure villain/ess!reader, use of non-canon characters, 1.6k word count
I'm scared that people aren't gonna like how the villain/ess!reader is portrayed but I wanted to write people who are hurt and are afraid, cuz that's what being alive is like, to sometimes be afraid. So, hope you enjoy!
There are requests with more specific topics or aspects of the story so they may get their own story post. I'm not ignoring you, I'm more story pacing ^^"
In his defense, Malleus only did it because your former fiance started to mock you and your family over a crime that was proven false. You certainly werenât ungrateful enough not to thank Malleus for his assistance. The powerful king simply smiled.
âThis is but a mere glimpse of the things I would do for you, should you finally accept my proposalâÂ
âT-this is not a decision you can rushâÂ
You were hesitant and gave excuses to refuse the dragon king but he made efforts to rebuke your reasons one by one, destroying whatever obstacles that kept you from saying yes. Soon, it came down to one reason, your real reason.Â
You were scared
Not of Malleus, he has never done anything to warrant fear from you. But rather, his status as a âroute targetâ.Â
Before the arrival of the heroine, you were friends with the other route targets and even felt happy enough to be engaged with the prince despite having only platonic feelings between each other. But the moment they all met her, your world became hers.Â
Everyone changed (or perhaps you changed and this was how it was meant to be) and you were left ridiculed and soon villainized by those you felt close to. The look of disgust on their faces whenever you attempted to just speak to them, it hurt you.
Would Malleus be the same? Be kind to you then break your heart when the heroine comes in? You suffered because of it the first time but if it was MalleusâŠyour last and maybe closest person in your life since reincarnating to this world⊠you donât know how you could come back from that.Â
So you started to give up on your happy ending, refusing to answer Malleusâ proposal, avoiding to engage with the heroine at all, even escaping the party and retreating to your old hiding spot⊠in the royal garden.Â
Alone with your thoughts, you berated yourself over your cowardice as you hid in the tall rose bushes. Gently, you fidgeted with the rose petals and you reminisced about the past. You met Malleus here, didnât you?Â
You were so clueless over your future. Back then, you still held hope that your fate was not predestined, that you could be content with stepping aside for the heroine and live happily with them. Yet despite your conflicted feelings, you managed a smile as you recalled one fateful night in the garden. It was the night that you met with your closest friendâŠÂ
âLord Malleus!âÂ
âŠDid you say that out loud?Â
You looked around in confusion to see if you were truly alone as you thought and to your surprise, you saw beyond the tall hedges the very fae you were just thinking about and the person who called himâŠ
The female protagonist.Â
âDo you like flowers, Lord Malleus?â
Your heart clenched painfully as you saw your worst nightmare come to be, the female lead with your friend(?) and they were alone in the gardens, where you realized where the player was supposed to meet Malleus in order to enter his route. Was the baronâs daughter aware of this? Did they meet like it was meant to be? Should you stayâŠor run away?Â
You could. Your engagement has been annulled and your family was cleared from accusations of treason. You haven't accepted Malleus' proposal so nothing is holding you or your family back from leaving this kingdom forever and starting a new life away from here. No need to follow this cursed story to the end. No need to ever see your ex-friends or the protagonist ever again.Â
No need to see Malleus again.Â
Just run away. Â
Malleus internally thanked the elders and Lilia for their lessons to conceal his emotions, or he could have done something as drastic as burning this garden to ashes due to the annoyance he felt at this moment. He noticed your escape from the party and assumed you wanted some fresh air so he left you on your own. But soon, the party attendees bore him and he soon ached to be by your side once more. So, he made his way to the one place he immediately thought of when thinking of you, the royal gardens.Â
It was his curiosity borne from boredom that brought him to the gardens that day. He found himself attracted with your kindness and obliviousness to his true identity. He found you charming, a delight and later an optimist when learning of your situation. He knew right away who you were, the child from a noble family betrothed to the young prince of this kingdom since young but that piece of information did not bother himâŠat first.Â
But you were turned from charming to tempting as time went on. He craved your attention, envisioning your smiling face with each letter he received from you via his attendant Lilia. He couldnât count how many times he wanted to visit you personally but couldnât. He was sure that if you knew his identity, you may cease your correspondence with him in fear of a scandal between the kingdoms. He at least could appreciate your tactfulness.Â
But Malleus encountered another greedy individual, and sheâs standing right in front of him.Â
âDo you like flowers, Lord Malleus?â The baronâs daughter asked, fluttering her eyelashes cutely.Â
âThis garden and its flora has its charmâ Malleus curtly replied, he canât hate this garden afterall. He met you here.Â
âSo do I! I guess fae and humans arenât so different, huhâÂ
Well, thatâs a stretch of a comment. He couldnât comprehend this humanâs agenda. Constantly surrounded by young men, Malleus assumed she had better ways to spend her time, and not waste his.Â
WaitâŠwas she reaching her hand to him?Â
âMy wish is for humans and fae to get along. Wouldnât that be great?â The female lead sweetly said with her best smile, stretching her fingers to reach for Malleusâ crossed arms.Â
To dare attempt to lay hands on him without his permission. No one would fault him for burning this womanâs audacious hands off, right?Â
âKing Malleus!âÂ
The dragon faeâs pointed ears perked up at the sound of his name. He turned immediately to the source, knowing exactly who just called him.Â
âMy dear humanâ he responded back with a smile as he saw you walking quickly towards him.Â
In spite of your nervousness, you walked up to the duo and looked to share a gaze with the tall dragon fae before cautiously moving to hover your hand on his arm. Malleus did you one better and guided your hand to firmly rest on his arm, with his large hand kept over yours.Â
âGood evening, ladyâ you nodded your head at the heroine who seemed displeased with your presence but curtsied back, as is custom. You barely gave the womanâs much of your attention (your confidence may waver if you did) and turned directly to face Malleus.
âKing Malleus, I had planned to retire early tonight and leave this partyâ you looked to Malleus, taking a deep breath before speaking once more. To let yourself be selfish and fight for the only man that mattered to you now. âWould you like to leaveâŠwith me?â  Â
âArenât you being rude?â The female lead argued, barely hiding her annoyance with you. âNot only did you interrupt a conversation, youâre shamelessly asking Lord Malleus to leave-âÂ
âWhere would you like to go, my dear human?â Malleusâ deep voice interrupted the baronâs daughter, not that Malleus cared as his striking green eyes focused solely on you.Â
âIf youâre willingâŠperhaps your manorâs garden?â You shocked yourself with your boldness, but you kept at it. âI much prefer your garden above all others, especially during our datesâÂ
Whoosh
Your senses couldnât keep up with the sudden shift as you were suddenly lifted by Malleus who quickly scooped you up into a bridal carry. You and the female lead both had looks of shock by the fae kingâs sudden actions but Malleus paid attention to only one of you.
âI had made the false assumption that all humans were charmingâ Malleusâ eyes glinted a bright green, you compared them to gems, as he smirked amusingly at you, his fangs peeking from his lips. âBut only you could evoke such feelings of greed within me"
Ignoring this world's protagonist, Malleus began to shroud the two of you in specks of green lights, a sign that you were going to be magically whisked away at Malleus' whim.
But before you did, you managed to meet the female lead's eyes which were filled with nothing but indignant rage. She looked ready to destroy you and everything you love, but you steeled yourself. Instead of flinching under her glare, you smiled at her while wrapping your arms around the dragon king's neck. Without a word, you made your decision.
