before we start posting that july is gay wrath month let’s consider that july is disability pride month first and foremost. the “be gay do crimes” memes can wait
before this post breaches containment and people start going “why not both hehehe” i want you to seriously consider the very long history of disabled people’s existence being pushed aside and/or seen as secondary. i promise you it’s not going to hurt to hold onto the memes and give disabled people space for visibility and celebration.
i say this as a disabled trans person whose trans identity is made front-and-center to the (mainly cis) people who know i’m trans but my identity as a disabled person is brushed off by the very same people.

in 2026 let’s start actually noticing and taking seriously the true scale and impact of jkrs transmisogyny and how she’s been funneling decades of royalties and ip owner cash directly into anti trans lobbying thats been making the uk hell while gradually worsening conditions elsewhere through impacting the zeitgeist
[ID: tumblr tags reading #she effectively venmo'd a known hate group 70000 usd equivalent on a whim #she personally bankrolled the political campaign to keep Scotland from gaining independence over their intention to legalize(?) trans people #she started HER OWN hate group last year which intends to "protect" women and girls from having their "autism exploited" by trans activists #she used to slip off Forbes' richest person list bc she gave so much money away #she hasn't slid position in YEARS because she has started entrenching herself in transphobic investment funds effectively #she's worth some shit like 1.2B now because of that #she has explicitly stated that engaging with - even on a fandom only level - her works makes her money that she then uses to do all of this #we cannot just let people remain ignorant to the damage she is intentionally doing #and we cannot let people forget that she got her bc she befriended an echo chamber of radfems who never criticized her in order to do this #do not let that shit slide. End ID.]
A slight clarification and correction on the Scottish politics note. The Scottish Parliament (Pàrlamaid na h-Alba) was not seeking to 'legalise' transgender people (it is not illegal to be trans in the united kingdom in the way this term implies) but sought to reform the Gender Recognition Certificate process.
In the United Kingdom in order for a Trans person to have their gender fully recognised within the united kingdom legal system you have to apply for and be granted a GRC. These allow you to change your gender listed on your birth certificate, your future death certificate, as well as get married as your current gender (ie a trans man and a woman would be a straight marriage rather than recorded as a lesbian union if the trans man had a GRC, aka he was legally be Husband). You do NOT need a GRC to update your passport, medical records, driving license, employment details or banking details.
In order to get a GRC it is an extremely difficult and rigorous (and transphobic) process. Since 2006 when they where introduced only 9,500-10,00 have been granted. Typically, 450 a year are approved with a 95% approval rate.
In order to get GRC you need to be:
a: diagnosed with gender dysphoria in the UK by a specialist*
b: living as your new gender for at least 2 years (name change documents, gender marker changes, any documents in your new names such as bills or student loans etc. are used for proof of this. In general they want one piece of new data for every 3 months lived in your new gender)
c: prove that you intend to live as this gender for the rest of your life (no guidance is given on how to do this)
d: be 18+
e: a report by two different medical doctors in the UK or 1 doctor and 1 psychologist. these have to include details of all gender affirming treatments you've had or have scheduled (HRT, top surgery, FFS, bottom surgery, phalloplasty etc)
*there are ways around this, but they are very difficult and usually require you having had sex reassignment surgeries (that you cant get in the UK without a gender dysphoria diagnosis) or being married or in a civil partnership in very specific circumstances, or having lived as your new gender for 6 years or more.
These documents are all then sent to the UK's Gender Recognition Panel, this is not a set body but a changing group of Judges, medical practitioners, and psychologists. There is no publicly available roster of these members, but it is headed by Judge Paula Gray. All of these people are undoubtedly Cis gender.
What Scotland sought to do was to reform this system, arguing that it was part of their devolved powers that encompass both legal and medical elements. In December 2022 they moved to remove the need for a gender dysphoria diagnosis and instead move to a process of self identification that was overall much less focused on medicalisation of the process. They also planned to massive reduced the required time living as your new gender (iirc to around 6 months) as well as lower the age requirements to 16 years old.
This bill was blocked by Westminster under Section 35 of the Scotland Act, arguing that it exceeded devolved powers and would come into conflict with the 2010 Equality Act.
The attempt of Hollyrood to change the GRC recognition process in Scotland and their failure is a very imporant prelude to the recent rulings with the Equality act.
In my personal political opinion and reading of the situation, JRK and other TERF groups in the UK took this success and used it as a springboard for their successful changing of the reading of the 2010 Equality act. It is no coincidence that they used it in January 2023 to shut down Scotland's attempts at more trans friendly reforms (as well as arguments around developed power which are still iron hot after the 2014 indy ref and Brexit but i digress) and then moved onto it proper after this victory.
All of that is to say it is very important to get these details right if you want to understand exact how the TERF movement in the UK has moved over the past half a decade and WHY they where able to overturn the previous interpretation of the 2010s equality act so quickly.

Apply for a Gender Recognition Certificate to legally change your gender.

TRANS PEOPLE CONSIDERING SURGERY- READ THIS PLEASE GENUINELY I AM BEGGING YOU IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE
If you are getting gender affirming surgery, especially if it’s your first major surgery, PLEASE be aware that you can become SEVERELY depressed afterwards ESPECIALLY if you have a history of depression or suicidal ideation.
Post op depression is a natural reaction to the crazy mix of hormones your body goes through after major surgery as well as the stress and anxiety of recovery. Think of it like an adrenaline crash, but dragged out longer.
For me it kicked in about 6 weeks after top surgery and the worst of it lasted until about 10 weeks post op. EVERYTHING felt IMPOSSIBLE. None of the skills I’d been practicing worked. I thought everything was going to be bad forever. I didn’t attempt, but I was in the hospital. If it wasn’t for my support system I probably would have attempted.
This is not regret, but it can feel like it. I remain happy about my results to this day (going on six years later).
This is not you failing to maintain your mental health, but it can make you feel like a failure.
Things are not hopeless, but through the haze of this depression they can feel hopeless.
It can be terrifyingly sudden or it can sneak up on you. I didn’t even realize what was going on until after the depression finally passed and my mental health went back to normal.
I am writing this post because nobody told me about this before my top surgery. I was caught completely off guard. For my subsequent surgeries being aware has made all the difference. Being able to treat those symptoms as an expected and normal part of the healing journey has made them far easier to deal with. Because even when my emotions go to dark places I *know* they will pass. I have been able to tell the bad thoughts to take a bad seat and focus on healing.
PLEASE have a plan in place for if this happens. I know that this topic is taboo because of how often our mental health is weaponized against us, but I desperately want every single person getting gender affirming surgery to be aware of, and have a plan for post operative depression.
