in the interest of helping my fellow job seekers, i want to note my experiences with these sites. i'm a technical writer, which is a field hit hard by the "ai" bubble. i won't work in defense or similar fields, so my pool of jobs is even smaller. ymmv.
remote rocketship - paid service. their site makes a lot of claims about how fast you can get an interview, and they are not up front about the fact that they charge money just to apply to jobs. rent seeking AF.
hiringcafe - found one job that i was interested in applying for, which is on par with other job boards i've used. when i clicked apply, it opened a link to the job on the company's website! refreshing at a time when every site wants you to create an account so they can sell your data.
welcome to the jungle - you can't even look at their job listings without creating an account, so i hit the back button.
swooped - same, you have to create an account, and they're all about "ai"
somewhere - zero technical writer jobs found
glassdoor - probably where i find most of the jobs i apply for. companies are rated by employees. i was eyeing a job at a local tech company until i got to their glassdoor page and saw an alert that they'd been trying to inflate their reviews (and no wonder, the reviews they did have were bad). bullet dodged.
it's worth noting that glassdoor and indeed are now one, so expect glassdoor to enshittify rapidly. also per wikipedia:

when i find a job listed on glassdoor, i go to the company's website and apply directly because i don't trust data-hoarding rent seeking job boards to ensure my application gets to the right people.
if you, like me, are struggling to find work and starting to blame yourself, remember that 1 in 4 americans is unemployed. HR departments are now using "ai" to vet applications, which means many, many people are being rejected en masse for spurious reasons. there's actually a lawsuit in progress involving one of these companies, and i expect further backlash as the economy worsens.
