It's scary that there is a whole sector of people who think this is literally true and not just an elaborate game of pretend-with-me that we are playing.

I think, and maybe I'm wrong and this makes my own writing worse, that sometimes some contradiction is ok, even good. I contain multitudes and all that. Especially if a character can reflect on their own contradictions, that shows dynamic internal evolution. I also think it's good to plan out character arcs integrated deeply within plot arcs so that writing scenes you can write a bit looking forward towards where both are going. But yeah. I dunno. Gotta be careful and play the balance.
