I am proposing a new term: mau!

A mau is someone who falls somewhere between sphynx (twink) and otter. For reference, sphynxes have a slim or average build, and little or no body hair. Otters have a slim or average build, like sphynxes do, but are hairy, like bears. Maus fall somewhere in between.

The term is based on the Egyptian Mau. I chose this animal to represent the identity because it is a cat, like Sphynx cats, but has fur, like otters do. I also chose this cat specifically, rather than other breeds, because it has short hair.

I considered calling this "rex" initially, based on the Cornish Rex, but decided against it due to "rex" being easily confused with other breeds, some of which have long hair. I also considered choosing "lykoi" based on the breed by the same name, due to it having sparse hair, but I decided that this might be too wolf-like due to it also being known as a (were)wolf cat. Additionally, the Egyptian Mau is noted for its tendency to enjoy playing in water, which I felt was a fun nod towards otters.

The flag is based on my otter and sphynx flags. The symbol in the corner is a cat paw print, similar to the sphynx symbol, but has claws, similar to the otter symbol. The colors are a combination of the sphynx and otter flags' stripes. Here is the mau flag between the sphynx and otter flags, for comparison:

This term and flag is inclusive to gay men, achilleans, and nonbinary people who experience gay or gay-adjacent attraction to men.
